I have seen engine oil leaks which are more visible (those oily dark spots at parking lots)  and more likely to be ignored as it will not light up the dash (although you just need to keep top up the engine oil more frequently in between servicing)

both my cars didn't trigger CEL, maybe because I caught them early, 

in the beginning, they leak during cold start and seal itself after engine warm up

yes, the leaked petrol will evaporate fast, got to catch it fast otherwise it leave no traces

this patch disappear 10s after I took the photo and the engine bay was cold

by the time you reach workshop, they will tell you every is ok, no leak leh

Early evening... 9pm+

Shanghai street and road traffic behavior are getting better than us already.. we are in the reverse gear... 

And definitely much much better than NYC..
