April 7, 2008 Cyclist, hit by private ambulance, dies

A 27-YEAR-OLD Malaysian cyclist died after he was hit by a private ambulance at the junction of the Central Expressway (CTE) and the Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5 on Sunday morning.

The ambulance was exiting the CTE at about 9am and hit the cyclist who was riding across a signalised pedestrian crossing.

The impact threw the cyclist off his bicycle. He sustained serious injuries and was taken unconscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital where he was declared dead half an hour later.

There were no patients in the ambulance at the time and the 21-year-old driver was unhurt.

Witnesses can call the Traffic Police hotline on 1800-547-1818.

Neutral Newbie

Does anyone notice that there are more and more instances of such pte ambulances chionging lane 1 on the expressways?

Sometimes got blinkers sometimes not.

I always wonder how many of those times were they actually rushing to attend an emergency.

signalised pedestrian crossing??? issit a zebra crossing? btw if it is, i am not really surprised cuz alot of these riders dont dismount and juz ride across. there was a few occasions where those banglas just cycle across the zebra crossings at the filter lane exiting to expressway. usually drivers wont notice when those idiotic cyclist just zoomed pass.

Guys, I wish u could do the family and friends a favor by not making guesses on what happened.

Those who know him and worked with him knows, he is a good man. The fact that he is gone, it is a great loss to the family, especially the wife and kid.

He is a good man. May his soul rest in peace.
