To leave in neutral?

Is it advisable to shift to neutral gear when say I am stuck in a traffic jam for auto transmission car? Will this additional gear change do any damage to the gear box?

when the lights turn green, floor the accelerator then push the gear to D...

personally i think engaging N once in a while is ok...

modern gear system won't damage so easily...

Personally I feel its not necessary to switch to 'N' unless under those traffic condition which is totally not moving at all, lets say if you are in 'N' position and suddenly the car in front of you moves, will you be in a hurry to switch back to 'D' and move off ? This will result in damaging the auto g/box in the long run if you do it often.

If u intend 2 keep 4 10 yrs, better not.

 

Solenoid/TC may wear out wif constant movement. Dependant on make, TC is servicable.

As I drive manual, there are certain things about auto that still baffles me. If using N can cause problem, then what is N for? I still don't understand.

N is for when ur vehicle break down or kenna repo, the towing company can tow it away..

Leave it in "D". No need to change to "N". The gearbox can handle it. Don't worry.

Everything wears out also. Even the gearbox, brakes etc. Why not say, dont use the brakes too often, the pads will wear out.

Holding the car stationary using the brakes does not wear the brake pads out. There is no friction between the pads and the discs, so how can they wear out? Imagine you take an eraser and just push it down onto a piece of paper. Does it wear out? Only when you rub it then it will.
