D is for day time driving.

N is for night time driving.

R is for race driving.

M is for max speed.

S is for sunrise/sunset driving

Not all cars have M and S. Don't anyhow shift if you don't know your gears.

To prevent this headache, I changed to a manual. Lol

to be honest, I have done the N for all my auto cars ranging from the dinosaur 4 speed AT, 6 speed cvt and 6 speed dsg. None of them broke down.

but since now on a manual, no more such headache

What car?

Recently did some casual "window shopping" for cars, enquired about the cost and wait time if they were to indent manuals for some existing models. Most of them flat out said that they won't do it. A few said ~5k extra and 3-5 months' additional wait time.

Wonder if Skoda AD will be willing to indent manuals. The new wave of Skoda damn tempting, but don't feel like dealing with the upkeep of a DSG.

If people worry about spoiling your gearbox because of putting to N

Get your head around this.

Every time I stop the car to park  it

I put D to N to Reverse to P

Every time I start up the car

I put P to Reverse to N to D.

Can you imagine the damage I put to the Reverse gear.

I don't intend to gostan and also I put to R to get to P

Every time I start my car I also put to Reverse when I want to get to D.

Like that poor R never use also will up lorry lah.

Why car designers so stupid?

Why must put R between P and N?

99.9% of all my miles driven is in D

0.01% is in R so put R below D, 2, and 1 lah.

Never use R so much also must always have to put in R for no reason.

True or not? True or not?

Who here when start the car NEVER put in R?

Who here park your auto car NEVER put in R to park your car?

Why people worry about putting to N?

Its the poor R that always kenna damage when people don't even want to gostan.

Car designers really no blain one. Never use their blain.

At least put in N less damage cos the car doesn't want to go head or gostan.

Put into R means the car readies himself to gostan.

Excited already put his full force ready to gostan but never gostan.

Its like you go for massage and the lady very frenly, smiling all the time and give you the wink.

Then rub here rub there and you think ho siah lah here sure got one.

You relax and feel very very happy happy.

The hydraulics start pumping and the oil get hot and the piston goes all the way up under full pressure load.

And then and then the lady says

Times up, get dress I wait for you outside.

Then happens every time you put to R but never gostan.

Like that you think your transmission got spoil faster or no?

You think lah, you think lah.

If people got question about car don't bother asking your mechanic

a lot don't know one lah.

Just ask us in MCF here got a lot of experience on

suck, squeeze, bang, blow.

This is the technical language we use to explain the combustion process of the engine.

Please don't get confused and think we are talking about KTV hor.

The N is only kept in modern automatic transmissions to prevent accidental shifting from D to R while at high speed. Don't bother with N when stopped at light.

At high speeds many people have accidentally shifted from D to R?

Really?

But luckily the designers were so smart they saw this and created N

and that save them?

Really?

I am sure cars nowadays have electrical safeguards to prevent D to R already, the need for N as a step between R and D was in the very early days of the auto transmission. It is a case of don't mess with what is not broken, people are used to having N etc now. Anyways, there is no grand design behind N in auto cars and people need to stop thinking there is some magic they can do switching to N. There isn't.

So since people now cannot put D to R at high speed

so no need for N lah.

Really huh?

I really cannot believe N was put in to stop people moving from D to R at high speed.

Because the reason for N is for towing the car when it breaks down.

Is there anyone else in the world that insist car designers put in N because people kept moving D to R at high speed?

There are lots of people that know the reason we have N is for towing.
