Damienic 5th Gear October 3, 2008 Share October 3, 2008 Yes....we will nvr know the real story for sure...but indeed quite likely I think the construction company knows wat they are doing and not worried at all abt these complaints....probably got themselves well-covered alr...they were contacted by reporters abt this incident and they calmly explained they did so becos of performance below expectations and say the workers can either accept the new pay or quit and go to some other companies to work...from the way they replied, think they are confident of not getting into any trouble despite the complaints lodged.. ↡ Advertisement

Rickster 5th Gear October 3, 2008 Share October 3, 2008 Agree with you Bro These Tiong Kok fellows used their sweat & labour under the damn hot weather working 14 hours a day 1.7K isn't consider much Maybe people see them as Tiong Kok Nans hence might consider this amount as alot Even if they pay locals 3.4K salary and work half the amount those tiong kok lang do, i don't think singaporeans will go for it. Minzmaster Neutral Newbie October 3, 2008 Share October 3, 2008 I am impressed that FT are paid $1700pm. Some may say that Singaporeans will shy away from this 7am-9pm, 28days work routine, so have to pay the FT high salary! I heard GRADUATE starting salary are $1700-$2000 in 2007 and 2008! Almost on par,GAWWD! No wonder the properties are booming in Singapore, no wonder car demands are high, no wonder the food court can charged $8.50 for economical rice, etc. Call me naive, but I always thought that construction workers are 'normally' paid around $1k salary. Why do locals always kowpeh about "FT" earning so much and so much? If truly the $2k is soooo easy to earn, why didn't the NS-fit sillyporean men go for it? Why? Because it's such a physically taxing job that the pampered locals can't even endure for a single day! So please... just shut up and be glad that the "FT"'s are here to build the homes that we live in!

But given the same job opportunity in the mainland, it's a fraction of what they are being paid. The IR is rushing for the job to be done. They will get the money back when the casino opens. Scoots 3rd Gear October 3, 2008 Share October 3, 2008 wowow.... 3.4K for 14day work month isn't that bad. I know I can't do that kind of job NOW, but that kind of pay and that kind of hours SHOULD be able to attract a certain group of Singaporeans....
