if u asking about your honda, and your rim is original honda rim, with original 235/40/18 tyres.

then dun need think ma, just back the same size.

if u go 225.40.18 , will still fit in, but the diameter of the whole tyre become smaller. and your gap from the fender to tyres become bigger. no to mention the tyre might stretch abit.

235.40.18 tyres is not hard to find ma, why would u change it and compromise  unless your tyre urgent blow and u struck at tyre shop and u got no choice?

ya the RIM is original, but as i attach the screenshot in the previous msg, the RIM width is actually the same as BMW 218i, which is 8 inch width, if 218i can fit with 225/40, then why my Civic can't ? i asked the Honda technicial as well, they won't void warranty if i change to 225mm as long as remain original rim.

i wouldn't consider 225/40 actually, but i will consider 225/45... below pic show another reference, as you mentioned the 225/40 is smaller dimension than original 235/40, then 225/45 is a choice. 

the purpose of i want to change smaller width is just because of wanna feel whether it will lighten the car a bit to increase acceleration and better fuel economy, but i know same time it will reduce the stability, but how big the diff will .. will wait til i change it only know...

btw i see the so powerful car BMW 340i also using 225mm width tire only, maybe Civic equip 235mm is a overkill?

If you want to improve economy and have a lighter tyre, suggest you research GY EfficientGrip Performance 2. Comes in 225/45/18 I think.

My consumption improves by about 0.3km/l (was about 7.2km/l) after replacing the old Dunlops. It is light due to very thin side wall. Cheap and very quiet too.

hey nice,

good to hear that, thanks for another choice, initially i was consider the new Hankook ventus prime 3, it is balance between performance and comfort.

and cheap haha... rm290 per donat..

btw whats the price of Good year Efficient grip performance 2?

225.45.18 will be too high, u use the calculator u can see the diameter increase alot, really dun advice u to do that.

if your sole concern is acceleration and fc.  my advice is go back same size.

but pump the tyre pressure higher by 20% , maybe u alway pump 220. pump 250 instead.

ya higher by 15mm... mind to know what will happen cause by this higher diameter?

normally i pump 220~230... i tried before 250 it's very stiff... and think it's loosing a bit grips...

225/40 will result in slightly  smaller  size,  225/45  will result in slightly bigger size, h none has any significant difference.  225/45 will give you less power,  slightly slower odo reading than the original  meter should read. But we are talking about  less than 3 %, no difference it is going to make at all.  You spent so much to buy a turbo car, why go cut on tyres brand and size to save that few dollars ? Just enjoy it.

no big deal on the sizes, both works for your rims. only Honda engineers will know which side of the limits they spec the car on. Maybe you can try out for yourself to see if the change meets your expectation? Best to experience it for yourself to learn, and do share your experience here for everyone's knowledge too. 👍

fd2r only 225/40/18 & many downgrade to 17.

need to ask honda liao...

235 is the original size that offer for latest facelift turbo highest spec version...

i tested pre facelift one before i book it, end up i bought facelift one , after i got my car i feel like it a bit heavier and slower than pre facelift one..

so that's the feel of  215/50R17 ( old ) vs 235/40R18 ( facelift )...

So the calculator shows the minimum can be fitted in 215mm... thats great..

i put 4 configurations below, it looks like the 215/45R18 is the closest to original one in terms of the outer diameter and side wall...

any comment? anyone?

so that's the feel of  215/50R17 ( old ) vs 235/40R18 ( facelift )...

The heavy could be coming from heavier rim + heavier tyre.

215/50 17 has an overall diameter of 646.8mm

235/40 18 has an overall diameter of 645.2mm

Wider tyre has to do with lower profile + bigger rim

Check A-pillar.  What is the stock tyre load index?  What is recommended tyre pressure?

If you change the tyre, what is the new tyre load index?

-> Original PS4 ( 235/40R18 ) is 95Y, indicated on the tire show max 340 kpa..... means i can pump air to 340kpa without any risk?

on the chassis indicate recommend air pressure 220/230kpa.

-> Good Year Efficient Grip Performance ( 225/45R8 ) 95W, not sure the max kpa

-> Hankook Prime3 ( 225/45R18 ) 95W, not sure the max kpa
