Chromas 1st Gear November 26, 2008 Share November 26, 2008 Gosh, it's been ages since I last started a thread in this forum, but the events of late that I've been observing has led me to have decent list of items that are open for discussion. In this series, I'd like all drivers to do a little self-reflection on some of the habits that we are guilty of at times. [ol] [*]Road Hogging Either drivers are not aware that they are holding up Lane One or that they are just plain selfish and want to hold eg. 80kmh on a 90kmh road. [*]No Signalling When Changing Lanes / Turning This can be very dangerous for the drivers behind who will not aware of the intentions of the driver in front or irratating to those waiting at traffic junctions waiting to go straight, but there is a car who wants to turn right but does not have the signal light switched on. Trying to conserve battery power here [*]Parking Along Double-Yellow Lines Where there is just a two lane road and people choose to park along the side to go have their meals. Along Choa Chu Kang North 7, there is a coffeeshop where even gigantic trucks park to have their meals at Block 678A. There are kids crossing that road and sometimes, the trucks just turn out. There was once when a truck almost hit a kid. And that form of parking along the two lane road also results in traffic congestion during peak hours. [*]Lorry Racer I understand that you might be in a rush at times, but you don't have to use your bulk to muscle cars out of their lanes or force them to slow down just so that you can cut into the lane. [*]Lack of Lane Discipline (especially when turning) I find that a lot of drivers should realise that when the rightmost vehicle turns right at a junction, that they should stick to Lane One, and similarly for those on Lane Two turning right, should also adhere to Lane Two. Too many near misses already. Eg. At Potong Pasir, turning right towards Bendemeer Road[/ol] ↡ Advertisement
Chrispie 5th Gear November 27, 2008 Share November 27, 2008 well, this is singapore for you. The day when your listed sins are no longer committed, singapore is Lalaland. Im learning to just chill out when i see irritating drivers.. wasted a lot of energy getting worked up.
Yuan 6th Gear November 27, 2008 Share November 27, 2008 Hello lau shi, how are you? With your technique, you shouldn't have any problems with any or all of the above 5 pointers. Anyway, I beg to differ on yr pt 4. Instead of lorry racer, I saw a lot of lorry hoggers (increasing on the roads) especially along expressways. Some travel on lane 2 at 50-60 km/h. Ender Hypersonic November 27, 2008 Share November 27, 2008 Lack of Lane Discipline (especially when turning) I find that a lot of drivers should realise that when the rightmost vehicle turns right at a junction, that they should stick to Lane One, and similarly for those on Lane Two turning right, should also adhere to Lane Two. Too many near misses already. Eg. At Potong Pasir, turning right towards Bendemeer Road I know that junction you're talking about. But the right most lane, it's seems not 'natural' to keep right most. It is as if you need to turn alot just to keep right. I notice any right lane driver that make that turn will naturally drift into the 2nd lane. That's why I always turn into the left most lane to avoid them.. Ryanyusoff 2nd Gear November 27, 2008 Share November 27, 2008 i guess u always pass by that stretch along CCK ave 7 huh?i share the same sentiments with you.to add it further, many times drivers who intend to park there just stop without giving any signal.not only that, drivers who swerve out don't give a hoot about traffic behind them. and when comes to peak periods,no form of enforcement is present. luckily i always practice defensive driving.better for me to be safe than sorry. Slayer Clutched November 28, 2008 Share November 28, 2008 (edited) in the Batman movie, 2face said this : "either you die a hero , or live long enough to see yourself become a villian" reflections asks the questions of why did we do what we do? how we treat ourselves, our friends, our life, is very much determines how we behave on the road. :) Edited November 28, 2008 by Slayer

Skilled Neutral Newbie November 28, 2008 Share November 28, 2008 just let go. there are a thousand and one kind of drivers around the rds.
Helloworld88 2nd Gear November 28, 2008 Share November 28, 2008 In turning junctions, two right lanes can turn right, I notice many drivers on the leftside right turn lane, always inches inches forward, and way across the box, this make at opposite direction who are going striaght at rightmost lane need to switch to left and avoid that. Chromas 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Author Share November 28, 2008 Not getting worked up... well, ok maybe a little Maybe I should write an article for the ST on this.
Chromas 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Author Share November 28, 2008 Lau Shi is alright I'm super darn arrogantly proud of my rear signal lamps... I seriously think they're the largest ones for any road going car... so I use them with a vengence... Lorries and container trucks have been hogging Lane 2 very often, especially on long stretches like the KJE & BKE
Chromas 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Author Share November 28, 2008 There was a junction near Paya Lebar MRT heading towards Tg Katong Rd. There are 3 right turning lanes near that old shopping centre. I used to drive along that stretch to turn right into Geylang in order to drive towards the city. Lane 1 tries to turn right into Lane 2, while Lane 3 holds and maintains a right turn into Lane 3. This forces the poor fella in Lane 2 who is also turning right to be squished. I do realise that it not natural for Lane 1 drivers to turn right into Lane 1, but the above scenario at Tg K is the exact recipe for accidents to happen. Chromas 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Author Share November 28, 2008 That place is getting terrible, and for the absolute wrong reasons, I just got a summon even though I had SEASON PARKING for that place !!! What on earth is the enforcement doing??? I'm the one with the legit parking and those jokers along that road are the ones violating. Had a nice phone call to HDB today to scream the crap out of their ears, partly cos they replied me in an email with the saluations... "Dear MDM"... Do I look like a "MDM" to them??? Chromas 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Author Share November 28, 2008 Very true... those lines are just what they mean Friends have told me, "If you can't beat them, join them" I guess generations of bad driving against each other has caused most local drivers to just give the heck-care attitude on the road, thus "every driver for themselves" - rule applies
Chromas 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Author Share November 28, 2008 I wish the Traffic Police would just summon the whole lot of these. I seriously think that a couple of thousand jokers summoned for small issues like not flipping the signal switch should do the trick... ... boy, am I evil or what?
Chromas 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Author Share November 28, 2008 Yes, this is one heck of a dangerous thing to do... ... so in return, I normally drive extremely close to these jokers and release a decent whooosh of my BOV at them. You've got to train monkeys one at a time in this place
Lucaswh 1st Gear November 28, 2008 Share November 28, 2008 by doing so, u have brought urself down to their level. so why start this thread in the first place if ur intention is to execute some personal vigilante?

I think they do that now coz the limit for them had been raised to 70kph. ↡ Advertisement
