A_korusawa 5th Gear December 29, 2008 Share December 29, 2008 Hi, All Need help desperately! My ride experiences engine dies-off suddenly while at travel!!! It happened 1 to 2 times earlier this year, but stopped for a long while. It happened again and has become very frequent lately. . . . twice in a roll last week. I was travelling as normal when the engine suddenly dies-off. Yes, there's no acceleration & steering is locked. I immediately press hazard lights, control the steering and access the situation; if its OK, I stop by the side & start engine again at P gear; if not OK, I switch to N gear and crank to start again & move on...... It was rather dangerous as the steering is locked! Anyone can advice what has gone wrong!??? My mechanic shows me his ??? face. Regards, korusawa ↡ Advertisement

Sent back to AD and they diagnosed it to be a faulty fuel pump not being able to supply fuel correctly. Thats one thing you might want to look at. Hope you get it resolved soon. Albeniz Turbocharged December 29, 2008 Share December 29, 2008 Many years ago when I was driving the 1982 Nissan Sunny, I experienced the problem once on PIE. It died off when I downshifted from 5th gear to 4th gear. It was due to the dirty fuel filter.

Regards, korusawa Hi, Perhaps, you might wanna check if the distributor show signs of engine oil leaking into it. The visual telltale sign is oil stain beneath it within the engine bay. Else, it is best to remove it for an inspection by the workshop. Cheers.

Kenny8088 Neutral Newbie December 29, 2008 Share December 29, 2008 What make is your ride? I've encountered this issue before. When i went back to TC, they found out to be some sort of sensor failure (can't remember the name of the sensor) and I've heard a lot of Nissan cars had this issue. A_korusawa 5th Gear December 30, 2008 Author Share December 30, 2008 (edited) Thanks for all your reply. My ride is 2AZFE - a 4 yrs old Camry. Initially, I was told it could be due to current supply problem. So I replaced a 1.5 year VARTA (always to a higher ampere). Btw, its not worth to go for good brand like Varta nowadays as their lifespan is <1.5 yrs only! I also had my mechanic to replace oil filter & plugs, clean the throttle, A/F sensor & ensuring no signs of air or fluid leakages. I guess some of you are rite about faults at the distribution/injection system - the fuel pump, distributor coils/wires, sensors? etc. But is there any recommendation to whom/workshop that I can go for diagnos - reliable ones? B'cos mine was bought 2nd hand and was imported previously too. Really appreciate if you can help, Thanks! A_korusawa 5th Gear December 30, 2008 Author Share December 30, 2008 the engine dies off while driving.......... most of the times, it suddenly dies-off with no initial signs. there are only twice that it shivers a bit before it dies off.
A_korusawa 5th Gear December 30, 2008 Author Share December 30, 2008 mine is a 2nd hand from importer, thus no AD. that's why I need recommendations to workshops that can do good/reliable diagnos on my problems. appreciate your help, thanks

A_korusawa 5th Gear December 30, 2008 Author Share December 30, 2008 Yes, its something like that - When engine dies-off, all electrical parts are dead. So steering pump is dead and I could only manouvre by forcing on the steering which can only be turned once, i.e. cannot left-to-rite-to left again, and at <10degree....... depending on momentum. So if car comes to a still or at very low speed, its almost impossible to turn unless switch to P which is also pointless at all. ↡ Advertisement
