diff people got diff opinions.. but the previous post i made is my POV..

tried S!m0t@ de Stainless steel drop in.. after using for 5K and went to Melaka once with it..

i open up the airbox and still see the filter clean and nice..

i used OEM filter (brand new) to go JB one round and normal driving for 4K nia.. the filter already got the blacken part appearing across the filter..

I used K&N for 4k. Took out the drop in filter and see....The filter element still looked very clean except some fading on some portion. The rest is very clean and just like brand new. Wonder where is the dirt?

I checked my engine oil dipstick. The colour look like my oil at 8k or 9k mileage before servicing. [sweatdrop]

K&N is a reputable brand but I guess for high flow performance filter, filtration has been compromised and my ride becomes very smooth to drive.

I remembered when I used stock oem, it looks blackened just like your experience. By the time it hits 8k or 9k, it is super black already. Now my stock oem has exceeded 12k mileage, flow is still good and FC back to normal.

I stayed near industrial estate and the environment is very dirty and dusty. Have to clean my house's window grills and vacuum the whole house at least once a day due to the nearby incinerators.

Quite bad in Jurong area as well. Cars covered in layers of black soots. [sleeping]

I used to work in the West, near Penjuru area....Travelled for a while to and fro Jurong Island. At times, need to go Tuas, Lim Chu Kang and Jurong Shipyard that side.

I respectfully agree with you. [thumbsup]

I changed my car's air filter last week

it's quite dirty after 30,000km on Singapore roads

look at how much fine sand collected on the dirty side of the housing

25-30k km seems just right. 10k is for sure too premature.

I have been inspecting air filter elements 10-30k km for various cars and have realized that manufacturer recommendation of approx 30k seems to be about right.

@Mkl22 it depends on how dusty the environment where the car is driven

like you said, about 20k~30k

i use my butt to gauge, after changing new air filter,  no power restored, no fc improvement meaning don't need to change earlier next time 😁

Your air filter quite big, so can last longer. Last time my diesel van filter also like this, except it's rectangle shape. I think I change it once a year, or only when it's really black.

There's no point changing out earlier.

And for those thinking of other fancy air filter, don't.

OEM is the best in filtration, exactly what your engine needs.

double praise you. paper OEM best. K&N lets dirt in and kills the cylinder bores. Worst still are those absolute crap hurricane filters.

Then you get the naysayers who will say Singapore cars 10years only. then might as well don't put any filter... more power!! 😁
