Try huachen international hotel. Rated 4*. comfy and near west lake... about 15mins walk.. clean and nice... about sgd 80 a night

They have a laundry area where you can use their laudromat for free

While walking there can go buy 一点点 milk tea , just like koi but half the price.

Behind hotel is a night market and you can take direct bus to qing he fang

At west lake can take boat drop at middle island then boat to 1 of 3 places.. after that can take bus back , don't waste money take boat again

For cheaper food and massage... can download 大众点评

Stayed there twice this year.

Actually can skip shanghai..go suzhou and hangzhou better

Thanks Bro. Will check out.

yes, still have to show passport and collect at station, they have separate counter for online booking. I took 高铁 faster, no need first class, 二等座 already very comfortable.

2 yrs ago I took the 2nd class from shanghai to beijing, a 5hr trip.

But it was very comfortable and more reliable than their domestic flight.

1st class price different by 50% more right?

Do a fast check on Ctrip.

One way to Hangzhou from Shanghai 2nd class SGD15.

1st class SGD22.

yes must take the one that stop along the main city, walking distant to most hotels near the lake.

edit: still need to change to their mrt to the city that is 2-3 stop away.

HSR is likely the greatest achievement in recent years, good decision to avoid the domestic air travel mess like in the U.S. They must have learnt from Japan's experience, similar high population density concentrated in a few cities.

the car manufacturer and airline lobby groups will never allow rail to become big in USA.

My family are a hotel person, either 4 - 5 star hotel or good service apartment in China.

I don't trust Airbnb in China.

I think with a family of 4 taking taxi is easier when getting to hotel from train station, especially still have some luggage to drag on. Although most of the luggage I will keep in Shanghai.

Only moving around Hangzhou then maybe take mrt.

Then you may want download the app didi , china version of uber. Uber lost to them when trying to break their stranglehold

For data card.. I advise you buy from sg... less than $30 for 7 days . now china very restrictive on sim cards.
