Hi

Any doctors around? I would like to seek some preliminary advice...

Recently for 1 week I have been experience frequent bouts of dizziness. Whenever I lie down & get up, my head start to spin [dizzy] - like to going to faint liao. And this only happens recently only. I never got such thing before.

Is it due to low blodd pressure? Or stress? Or exhaustion? Or even the worst scenario i.e. something in brain?

Can advice if I should go to see GP first or go to do some checkup at hospital or where?

HELP PLEASE

Sounds like low bp. More like postural dizziness associated with postural hypotenstion. Go see a doc. Sometimes if you had tinnitus, and imbalance in the ears, you get this too.

dun worry too much. See a GP and he shd chek things out

It is low blood and maybe sugar level, excabated by high stress and lack of rest.

GP needs to do some prelim checks to ascertain ... just take 1 day MC go check.

Usually change of blood pressure (lower) will make you dizzy. Are you on hypertension medication ? Initially, you will experience the dizzy.

Hi all

Thanks for your advice.

Yes I am under a lot of stress at work for past 2 mths and in order to reduce my weight I wake up at 6am and exercising daily at 7am since March. Nope I'm not female but now under 35yrs old. And got family history of heart disease.

went for full body checkup in Feb and was told to go for treadmill test and the result was something about my left side of heart bigger than right side.... dun know what it means also. Just kinda worried that if blood not pumped enough to brain can cause stroke rite? So i was a bit paranoid whether my frequent dizziness is due to this??? any doctor can verify if this is true?

Now still contemplating going to see GP or specialist becos as you all know GP means General Practitioner i.e. see general illness only... so may end up they tell me go see specialist or watever...

Bro, moderate exercise please. If u are under stress & want to reduce ur weight, its good to exercise to de-stress at the same time lose some weight. Bt not on daily basis when u dun hav a past habit of exercising everyday, we are not at the prime years of our lives. Dont overdo it. If u really want to lose weight lightning fast, hit the gym n consult a trainer. Dont do it on ur own. Its veri dangerous. Please take tis advice.

Me not doc only a medic, likely to be low BP. Danger of low BP will result in lack of blood flow to the brain and

cause u to faint. The worst case is u faint and hit your head on the floor or ceiling...would be fatal....so better to be careful. Lack of blood flow will not cause the blood vessel to burst in your brain (stroke)...Stroke occur if u have high blood pressure. Better don't waste time ....go and c the doctor.l

Hi Sci10213:

There are many causes of dizziness or vertigo (spinning or swaying sensation of the body)

As some fellow forumers have pointed out: low BP, ear problems, low blood count (anaemia/thalassemia), low sugar can all cause dizziness.

Some common causes include:

Postural hypotension (Low BP on change of posture): Do you have the giddiness on change of your posture, i.e. lying down or sitting down and suddenly sitting/standing up and having the giddiness? This is especially true if you are on any medications for high blood pressure.

Inner ear problems:

1. Vestibular Neuronitis: Usually happens after a bout of recent flu or upper respiratory tract infection (URTI). usually has nausea and vomiting but no hearing loss. Resolves usu by 2 weeks. nothing severe

2. Meniere's disease: Usually have hearing loss, ringing sound in the ear (tinnitis) and vertigo and mainly one ear affected. Giddiness very severe and can have fullness or pressure in the affected ear. Usually comes and goes and not just a sudden onset.

3. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV): due to stones formation in the inner ear and change in the position of these stones can cause giddiness. Giddiness usually from turning head in 1 direction. The doctor can usually do a simple manouevre to reposition the stones without any surgery.

Brain:

1. Tension headache or Migraine: can have giddiness a/w headache. Important to ascertain if you have been sleeping well or having any severe headaches

2. Form of stroke affecting the balance centres of the brain: usually rare unless have other high risks of stroke, i.e. diabetes, uncontrolled blood pressure etc. Will most likely have associated symptoms: unsteady walking or standing, i.e. off balance, slurred speech, double vision, weakness or numbness etc. Not all dizziness = stroke.

As for your threadmill, did the doctor tell you that you have any abnormal heart beats or abnormal rhythm? Did he send you for further testing for your heart, i.e. scans or aniograms? Slight thickened left heart may not be abnormal and can occur in some people especially if you have high blood pressure. It may be necessary to check if the doctor told you if there was anything else which was abnormal. If he didn't say anything else, then don't really have to worry about it.

If the giddiness doesn't get better or you have any stroke like symptoms, it may be better to see a doctor, may not be a specialist just to check for any other problems. Hope this helps!

if you need to see a specialist, go to the polyclinic 1st.

Ask the GP to refer you to a hospital specialist.

That way, you'll at least get subsidy from the hospital.

Else, if you go direct to a specialist, it will definitely cost you more.

Your body is the greatest instrument you'll ever own. Better get it check.

Well i will just see how for the next few days ...

vertigo is a symptom and not a diagnosis...but betaserc is a good choice....

try to minimize movements to your head....always change your head position SLOWLY....

see how it goes.
