Nicholasl Neutral Newbie October 10, 2009 Share October 10, 2009 Not kidding, I call and double check just now, $101,800. If anybody is looking in this category, you MUST take the car for a drive. Not everybody likes the selespeed (it is classified as auto by LTA though) but for those that like driving there is no real comparison for this price. You sure its $101,800? The last time I called(Less than 10 days ago) they quote me $110,800 due to the high coe. Didn't bother to follow up due to the pricing.
Garfield1 Neutral Newbie October 10, 2009 Share October 10, 2009 i had seen left hand drive cars on our roads. don't know how they got the approval, but a "left hand drive" sticker need to be pasted on the car. Only diplomats are allowed to drive those cars. Those are considered embassy cars.

I agree TOTALLY with you . You are indeed wise not to get the car. No wonder Jeremy Clarkson and his gang has nothing good to say about the car, except for the fact that everyone that called himself a petrolhead should at least own once an Alfa. Flameblade 1st Gear October 11, 2009 Share October 11, 2009 Lol, interesting comments some people can make and i am not sure if they have even test drive the car before! For me, i drove before bmw 320 and I'm now driving the 159. the bmw320 is slow(underpower), boring and don't excite me at all. And the interior, it's just bare and boring. I felt that the alfa drives better then the bmw320 and its more engaging to drive. Magazine review is one thing, real life driving it is another. My 2 cents worth
Vblaster_w211 2nd Gear October 11, 2009 Share October 11, 2009 The 3 series really need the I6 engines. I find the current Alfa's pretty nice to drive.

I don't agree . At the risk of being lynched, please back up your remarks. I think Alfa lost their way in the 80s with cars like the 75 and the 33 (my personal opinion only -others are free to disagree). I think the present range is great and doesn't display any complacency to me. It also appears that Alfa's quality issues of the past have been or are being addressed. Come on ,are you are a current/previous owners with some really bad experience or just some ..err.. hearsay from your best friends or some conversation you eavesdrop at a beer bar or coffeeshop ? Let's be fair with your comment ,looking at the lattest Alfa offering for the past 10 years, it has moved on not just in quality control, but positioning .Over the years I have come to realise that Alfa has cleverly pitched itself not as 'performance cars' any more, but cars with a 'sporting heart'; performance and handling and braking and safety are much of a priority in modern cars...so it's less about the ability, but more about the feel. And Alfa's feel is a sporting one. One more point. I don't know why Alfa gets more stick than any other car companies - which will always lose out to whatever road test or review any car columnist care to write about . It's such a tediously predictable event that it's not even worth challenging. But, why isn't there a whole page dedicated to Audi's terrible ride, or Lexus' styling, or Mercedes' conservatisim or some horrible jap's realibility issues? The Alfa isn't the only car thought to be 'less' than a 3 series, yet it's the one that's most picked on. I'm not suggesting for a moment that an Alfa is perfect (because you'd have to be mental to think that); but I doubt any car is perfect...and I don't understand

Littlered Neutral Newbie October 11, 2009 Share October 11, 2009 ...The Alfa isn't the only car thought to be 'less' than a 3 series, yet it's the one that's most picked on. I'm not suggesting for a moment that an Alfa is perfect (because you'd have to be mental to think that); but I doubt any car is perfect...and I don't understand I think that is partly their own fault. Alfa has in the past 10 years been trying to break the stranglehold that the 3 series has in US. It has been positioning the 156 and the 159 as alternative to the 3 series. It is inevitable that it gets 'picked on' when it's poking it's head into someone else's established territory. That said, if they did a good job of it, they would be able to stand on their own, established rival or not. Sadly, they did not, as the 156 fell on the reliability and service front, while the 159 fell on the performance front. I think the whole problem lies in the hierarchical ownership of Alfa by the Fiat group. We have the bread-and-butter Fiats and the supercar Ferraris bracketting the executive Masers then the Alfa and Lancia. They dont want the Alfas to cannibalize their own Maser sales. If Alfa can breakaway from that Maseratti glass ceiling, we'll get the legendary Alfas back again. It's very difficult to talk about a sporting heart when you cant back that up with performance on the road or track.

Contax 1st Gear October 11, 2009 Author Share October 11, 2009 As a motoring enthusiast i appreciate involving and well made cars whatever their badge. It winds me up when I read small minded comments derriding other brands, particularly getting drawn into fanboy type behaviour of 'my marque is better than your marque' does no-one any favours and only serves to make Alfa owners(in this case) appear to be threatened . Fiat group has already imported and started selling the alfa 8C through , of all , designated Maserati dealers in USA . http://www.autoblog.com/2008/10/06/alfa-ro...ready-sold-out/ So together with that hand assemble 4.7L hand assemble V8 from ferrari which are also found on the Maser , they are gunning for a different category but comprehensive group of buyer who may also be interested in the new Fiat 500 .
