When I saw the thread title, my immediate thought is that it is another of Ithunk's thread.

I was right [grin][scholar]

But personally I disagree completely with his statement. To me, the best cars are from Italy.

My 2 cents =)

Quality!

MB and BMW used to build to a standard

although now BMW and to a lesser extend

MB, they build to a price.

Volvo build engines to a very fine tolerance.

I remember someone saying Volvo builds

engines like Rolls Royce.

At Rolls Royce an engineer working 10 years

for the company is known as a new guy.

Rolls engineers take so much pride in their

work, the engineer get to sign his signature

on the engine.

In general, europeans build the best quality cars.

In general, Americans build the most fuel-consuming vehicles, with no regards to finesse and luxury.

In general, Japs build the most value-for-money car and the Koreans are catching up.

In general, one country in SEA builds cars that are cheap but not so gd quality and breaks down fairly often.

German best car? Joking right?

You know....at the top of the model level....ALL the car companies makes good car.

Your perception is skewed because you keeps thinking of the high performance top of the level cars from germany, which you cannot afford.

If you look at Lexus LS460 or Nissan GTR or Honda NSR, they are good cars too.

Of course those budget cars that you & I can afford comes from Japan and Korea.....so our main experiences are these low end cheap cars....which we come to associate as lousy.

If you are lucky to be born with a silver spoon, and since young you were only exposed to Japanese top of the line cars like LS600, NSR, GTR, Nissan President.

Then one day when AhPah don't give you money anymore to buy car, and you can only afford a dirt cheap BMW 318i or VW Polo or Merces A170, you will come down with the conclusion that GERMAN cars are Crap too!

So it relative my friend....Japanese makes the BEST cars.....SSS rulez!!!

i believe that was last time, way back after WWII. Their engineers just too excellent for the rest to catch up.

however, most of the car are electronically equipped. They still build solid and good car but i dont think the gap is that big now.
