Yr1985 1st Gear February 2, 2010 Share February 2, 2010 Saw the news just now, in fact a follow up after veteran national sprinter knocked by car and died at Thomson road in front of a church. MP will meet all relevant parties including the church this coming Thursday to prevent further incidents. An elderly couple got accident on the same spot earlier and nothing happens. Thousands of people died on potential accident spots and since when they got into attention and seeking improvement like this? Peasants life is cheap, mediaco*k su*ks, law favours the elite and rich. The only time equal is probably under the ERP gantry. ↡ Advertisement

That stretch always jam during peak, somemore so many junction with traiffc lights....imagine they erect one and pedestrian starts pressing the traffic light every minute. I suggest LTA to erect an ERP Gantry there....upper thomson to Lornie road is the only loop hole not plugged yet. hehehehehe.. Scenic98 Clutched February 2, 2010 Share February 2, 2010 the veteran runner jay walked and the poor lady was walking along the side of the road where cars are always parking on the foot path. adding a traffic light there will only make the traffic along that stretch in the morning worse. Kusje Supersonic February 2, 2010 Share February 2, 2010 Can we get a proper definition of an "elite"? It's getting tiresome when a two bit runner is considered an elite. Unless we can prove that a person has substantial influence within the establishment or is extremely wealthy, I don't think we should call him an elite. Needless to say the elderly couple dun even stand a chance. The slogan of "Speeding Kills" is incorrect. It shld be "Jaywalking Kills".
Buffy February 2, 2010 Share February 2, 2010 Whose fault? Jay-walkers? Christian going to the church and parked their cars along the road? The church, as they decided to build it there? I think all contributes. If church encourage its ppl not to drive there or park along the road, then some of its believer will not ended up facing more danger by jay walking as they can be seen easiler, n if the church goers have some self conscience, they will not drive there n parked their car along the road, finally of course jay-walkers should understand that they are taking certain risk. That's why I always ask "why dun they build all church, temple, mosque in industrial area where nobody will go or speed there during the weekends. Having them in heartlands will only jammed up traffic n parking lots. Look at loyang tua pek gong, its located in the industrial area n they dun face such problems. even when got big events, they stop ppl from parking there n provide ferrying services for ppl who park distance away. The cars along the road belong to the residents of the terrace houses. They have no porch to park their cars. The church folks do park their cars in the church compound. It's an unfortunate combination of factors that lead to that stretch of road being so dangerous. - cars parked along the terrace houses. folks walking towards the church face away from traffic. - road slightly bent + thick bushes on the road divider. - old folks who want to attend church daily. and happens not to be sufficiently mobile to climb the overhead bridge, or walk the extra distance to use the traffic lights. I think the church is like a school, once service over all pour out onto the road like water. Suggest they hire Cisco or they themselve volunteer to regulate human traffic. The Pedestrain path should erect fences or safety barrier, just like schools. Road put speed regulating strip, with warning sgins erected. or the best is put static speed camera, problem solved + good revenue for nation building These old ppl from church should be helped by young ppl from church to cross the road using correct method. God bless Singapore!!!
PointyEwe Clutched February 3, 2010 Share February 3, 2010 In other countries, I've seen young pple (some looks like pri sch children) given responsibilities to station at junctions to help direct traffic. Schools and religious places can definitely help ease congestions since they are the root cause to begin with.

What is the speed limit for that stretch of road? 70km/h? Only one thing can resolve this issue, WALK CAFEFULLY AND NOT JAYWALK!
