Ralliart announces it is closing its doors

In a letter issued to its customers, Ralliart, a Japanese high-performance subsidiary of Mitsubishi, has announced that it is closing its doors. The company's business case has apparently faded, a victim of the wilting domestic aftermarket scene as well as its lack of continued motorsports involvement.

 

Naturally, we wondered if and how the closure of the company responsible for its high-performance parts and related merchandise would impact the development, production and marketing of Mitsubishi vehicles sold here in the States

Some years back, many were discussing Mitsubishi Motors were on the verge of bankrupt, pulled out of WRC, many in car forums (even this one) say dun buy mitsubishi, going bankrupt yadda yadda.. At current, Mitsubishi lancers are still selling well. So what happened?

No love lost from an aftermarket perspective as all their performance parts are OEM from other big boys. More to do with the performance oriented models in future I guess.

Agree. Some of the prices are downright ridiculas & many are pricey due to brand. Stuff from well known brands like ARC & HKS are not cheap.

 

Anyway, Used parts market & trading are your friends. I almost always go for used (as the price deduction, even good condition ones can be very significant, more than 50% of sticker price are not unusual) but good condition if possible.

The company responsible for handling rally and off-road tuning for Mitsubishi will be shutting its doors. Japanese tuner Ralliart will be closing up shop on April 1 after 27 years in business.

 

In an open letter to his customers, Ralliart president Masao Taguchi said his firm is another victim of the economic downturn. The company will cancel their technical support plan and will no longer advise motorsport customers. The Mitsubishi/Ralliart Driver of the Year award has also been cancelled.

 

Only production of FIA VO Ralliart items will remain, but that will now be taken care of by Mitsubishi. Their catalogue of aftermarket tuning parts for normal customers has apparently been axed.

 

"We would like to express our sincere apology to all of customers," Taguchi said.
