Because we are unable to control the energy output of dark matter in a useable way, we currently use it in our FTL drives and even then, takes some time to spool up as well. Imagine pressing the accelerator...nothing..nothing.. and then suddenly you are 10 miles from where you started in a blink of an eye... see the problem?
