Lower arm bush replacement

recently just service my car and the tech pointed out that on both front lower arm bush (not sure is that the correct term, i think it's somewhere at the join as below picture which has some kind of rubber thing) have sign of tearing... they said must change but it will be a few hours job, so cant d it on that day ...... did ask about the cost but they didnt provide any numbers after that........... any bro has change it before, what is the estimated cost and where is a good place to have it changed?.. tyre shop or workshop a better place?.... [:p]

Hi Bro Blacky,

 

I've change my right side before, parts supplied by workshop plus normal servicing, oil filter, plug, gear oil by me, the total cost is $150.0

Its a lower arm ball joint like what bro Furrynadz said.

 

For a Latio its not using the flanged type so its cheaper. Few hours is probably for a new technician. The rubber part is the dust cover which protects the ball pin from foreign particles. Most workshop can do it provided they have the part.

I replaced both the front lower arms in May this year for my 6 years old Latio as the bush on both arms cracked.

 

Total damage $380+GST for labour and parts [bigcry]

Just change the whole lower arm if need be.

 

Depending on car model.

 

Got the arms at 160 from stockist and labour to change both 40 before discount.

 

Total paid 150 + 20 + Kopi (3)

Today did my 120k service for Mazda 3 at cityauto

was told by mechanic my rubber a bit "chui" need to change..

but price $450.. so ex.. so i told him i KIV...

 

any bros here got cheaper lobang..

I think my car got the same problem too, when start from stationery, uneven road or accelerate when on the move got the tok sound, any danger if not replace. Any bro here care to advice.

i changed most of my suspejnsion arm parts rubber to polyurethane.

 

whiteline ones. $600 plus. oem from stockist rubber already $400 plus so it might make sense to go with the better ones.

 

some easy to change, some other parts need to press out the bushings.

Got quote from 2nd source $155 per pair . Labour 80..

And for this job need to do wheel alignment 70

So more or less whole job around $450-$500

 

Sianz I this year change o2 sensor $700. Rear rotor disc $800... Going to hit 2k just for parts

6 year Old car going to "ki chia" soon

There are few ways to extract out/remove the ball joints depending on vehicle makes and models. Most of the mech will use a fork wedge and hammer to do the job. For smart mech they will us mechanical or hydraulic extractor to save time and prevent damage to other linkage.
