If u still move your car - get a quote from KATC - they overhauled mine n it was quite good.

All the best!

KATC wasnt good at all for me

I was a first time car owner(2nd hand car),went there for ATF flush,They charged me 380 for it and also did something called valve servicing for 180

After that,i realised i got carrot and contacted their boss raymond,he saw my message and didnt even reply me

And Dolphin69,if you copy and paste your "review" 5 times in different threads,I am pretty sure theres something suspicious

So is any auto box specialist in SG able to strengthen the gearbox and make it withstand higher torque than original specs?

For an Aisin 6 speed to exceed existing 300Nm to attain 450Nm?

because most of the cars in Singapore are front wheel drive and auto.

thanks bud, but I still can't relate how it is always ATF and not the gear oil.

I mean, com'on, it's the gearbox, but gear oil never seems to be the suspect from what I have read. Always either ATF or just overhaul/replacement.

in a conventional (those with torque converter) auto transmission, ATF double as gear oil.

rear wheel/all wheel drive cars with conventional auto transmission need gear oil in their rear differential.

I am not sure about those twin clutch transmission.

so no gear oil in a front wheel drive car with conventional auto transmission

sorry, am not sure about this.

how often do we have to change the gear oil in a Manual gear box?

also, does a Manual gear box needs to do overhaul like the auto one or Manual is more reliable and dont need to at all?

TIA

Manual tranny oil replace every 60k km. Manual gb is bullet proof and do not require overhaul at all. Only item requires replacement is the clutch pad.

Hi Everyone,

Let me share my gearbox overhaul experience with you.

My nine yr old Airwave CVT gearbox finally died 2 mths ago after giving intermittent problems for over a year. Its been a work horse and the family loves it although sadly we thought it may have to be retired. Its a real dilemma but as COE hasn't dropped sufficiently, ultimately I made the decision to repair the gearbox.

Did searches on the web and identified a couple of places - can't remember the others but decided on KATC after giving a call and was lucky enough to reach KATC boss Raymond Khang whose handphone was given on one of the sites. That swung it as most owners don't answer the enquiry line. I liked the caring and knowledgeable response but at that point wasn't sure I could move the car. So Raymond arranged for a tow truck to call me too. Anyway, after praying, I was able to engage the gear and drive slowly the half hour journey to his workshop. When the workshop tried to reposition the car it would not move again, so the gearbox had completely died.

Anyway to cut a long story short, Raymond gave me a good price and did the complete overhaul of my gearbox in record time of just over 2 days because I needed it for work (he estimated it would take a week but very kindly put a priority on my car). I was surprised that the car could even move when I went to collect it but it was an excellent job. The gear changes were silky smooth and was better than it had been for a very long time. But soon I felt some vibrations and fuel consumption wasn't as good as before and I went back. They patiently checked it and found that the engine mounting had disintegrated from old age. Again they did this repair in record time and treated me like royalty to boot, giving me lifts to the bus stop etc. to make the multiple visits and leaving the car at KATC less painful. Again, I was given priority and the repair was done very quickly.

I waited 2 months and a trip to KL later to write this testimony. I have to say KATC is a great place to do up your gearbox. The workshop is big, well organised and with tonnes of spareparts. Probably the reason why they could do overhaul in a matter of days. The mechanics are well trained and knowledgeable because the result speaks for itself. One gearbox workshop even told me that there was no way to rebuild an airwave gearbox and told me that I had to buy a new one at great cost. Well, KATC has the knowledge and capacity to not only rebuild it but to do it in record time - forget about JB, we have the best here. The car feels fast and is faster than before. I drove 3 guys when I was in Malaysia and one of them asked if it was a 2.4L car as they don't have the Airwave there. As you know, its only a 1.5L. Never knew that a well tuned gearbox could liberate so much performance from the engine. Its also more fuel efficient than before. On top of that Raymond has an excellent, professional and polite crew there. His brother Eddy is just as nice and professional and so is Randy another staff. They were patient and investigated each problem I described and heard. I guess with the gearbox in tip top condition, I started to hear other problems that the aging car had - they tightened my exhaust pipe for free and I have since also changed the aircon fan. I guess I have to renew the COE now that its in such good shape. Raymond also extended my warranty all the way to the end of my COE but I'm confident that the gearbox will last much longer than 9 mths!

KATC - thanks for giving my old faithful back to me, better than ever before when it almost ended up in the scrap!

Blatant advertising. First post straight away praise KATC? total posts only 4, and out of the 4, 3 are praising KATC.

I changed mine after 12k and it was brown and looked like well used engine oil.

I would change after the first 10k as the original oil is cheap mineral oil and there

would be a lot of metal shavings as the box was brand new.

I changed to fully syn oil and I was told that can last 100k.

Hi, I need a second opinion on what my mech told me. He said very likely my gearbox kapoot whem i told him i could reverse but not move forward after changing gear. His diagnosis was over the phone and after i did a few things he told me to. Should i get someone to drop by and take a look instead? Mileage is only 60k.sheeesh!

That is pretty fast for auto gear failure. Do you drive in any special way?

I change my gear box oil around 40,000 km. Usually, it is a bit black.

I still think it is not gearbox problem, never had any problem when i drove yesterday. Ride was smooth as usual. Cannot be possible it conked overnight?

Now it seems like my wife's wish for a new car is going to be fulfilled.

I hope to be able to get someone to come down and check tomorrow.

60k km should be quite new but you also mentioned Sunny, so how old is your car?

The fist thing to check is the transmission fluid, if it is low, top it up and you should be good to go.   Otherwise, the car would need to be towed.

I was driving a manual so 100,000 change no problem.

But 40,000 is correct for an auto.

But if I drove an auto then I would add a oil cooler.

Mine is a manual car but I still prefer to change the gear box oil a bit more regularly.
