SCChia Neutral Newbie June 11, 2011 Share June 11, 2011 I want to find out if I buy the M660 + Plus at PC show ($139) or at Courts Megastore (169$), do I have to go to Makagps at Alexandra to get my Sin/Mal maps? I understand I have to go there for the FOC loan maps for other countries, but are the Sin/Mal already preloaded on the 4gb sd card that comes with the unit when I buy it? Both are fine I guess, I got mine from AMK Courts @ $169. I used this M660 for my Europe trip and it worked very well. I intro this good brand to my friend and they asked me to get it for them since I was the one planned to visit PC show for some other stuffs. In the end they all went for their latest model - 610 and the price I must say it's very attractive. My conclusion, I should have wait but I am happy with my current M660. Btw, they are bundling with 4GB memory for M660 during PC show, I got mine only 2GB from AMK outlet. I guess it might be the same for other Courts outlet? ↡ Advertisement
Raymondism Twincharged June 12, 2011 Share June 12, 2011 Bro, you must understand this. Some people road directions very poor one. Like my wifey, she only knows how to drive to work and back home. But when you want her to go anywhere in Singapore, she got no problem when a GPS is with her. It's useful bro! My 2 cents worth. bro.. i dun mean to be arrogant or sarcastic or mean anything to anyone whose directional sense is not good... apologies if anyone felt that way :p i know its useful to hv a gps if the driver does not know his or her way around but in singapore where we shld be familiar... it is not good to follow GPS i know singapore fairly well.. why so? cos i made the wrong turns before... cos i look at street directory before i drive and search for the place... this is what we know as "paying school fees" its the same with our computer keyboard... it was not arranged nicely from A to Z but qwerty instead... example: i sat in another person's car before... from paya lebar.. he exit to PIE and we are going to woodlands... why would he need to follow instructions on GPS? instead of filter out right to lane 2 and by pass the CTE (City) slip road to go to CTE(SLE) slip road... he kept left by following the GPS... and join the traffic built up before CTE(City) and then wasted at least 3 min of his own time and probably 2 secs of each car going tpo CTE(city) if he has followed the old ancient way and looked the street directory.. he would hv known that he needs to get to SLE or BKE.. by looking at the map that contains his destination... having said that, i am also looking at buying one... for malaysia... LOL bro, i know whta u mean. but technology is advancing everyday... GPS is not just abt how to get to a place. It provide info like POIs....eg. if u need to grab a drink(coffeeshop) or draw(ATM) $, u can do a via point along ur route so u need not waste time looking for one. if im in an unfamiliar place n its lunch time, i will do a search for food n see what my gps will reco. all this free info is updated by a good and large communities for the benefit of GPS users. gps is very helpful when im rushing for time...i just key in the destination and start driving. no worries of wrong turns or search for which road. the latest gps can also provide current traffic condition which may help you prevent traffic jams....but this still need improvement for now. but one must always rem, u control the car, not the gps.....so at time when i know a way that is better, i will ignore the gps...its will then auto re-route. im seeing smart phones takeover the role of gps with functions that are better. but for now i prefer to keep my gps n phone separated. Maybe, just maybe, the widespread use of GPS is the true reason for traffic congestion problem in singapore Think about it, many of these GPS are "clones" anyway, in terms of firmware and for software, many are using the same map provider. Major differences are only due to extra features and faster processors. So I would expect these GPS units to all think alike and navigate in the same manner as you described. Anyway, even if using GPS, it's still best to review the route before proceeding. Sometimes, signal is lost at the worst of times, and system lag and your vehicle is actually ahead of the map display... think of it as an electronic street directory, that's all. Jamstart 1st Gear June 13, 2011 Share June 13, 2011 I also had a GPS in the car, not because I am lousy but more to save my brain juice of thinking where and which way to go. I only use it if I really need to squeeze my brain juice for the route.
Kb27 Supersonic June 13, 2011 Share June 13, 2011 I went to Port Dickson days back with both Garmin and Marbella gps. Both gps updated with the latest maps. Garmin MFM map wins hands down. the map of MFM is amazingly detail. On my way there and back, i follow Garmin cos i trusted it more than Marbella. I feel shd pay more for a trusted GPS brand and gd map support is the way to go. alternatively, buy online but no warranty. I went to outskirts of Kuantan last year with both MSM and MFM map. There were many missing roads with MSM. But when swapped with MFM, they appears. Buying a gps is all about map support. In this case, even a Garmin with different maps can make the difference. I agree MFM's Malaysia counterparts are much better than MSM. In fact they have already expanded to Brunei, Thailand and Indonesia and it was really a very good effort. Most importantly, their updates are much more frequent. MFM now comes in different format also: Garmin, Papago and Galactio. MSM only Garmin and Mapking. Shor 1st Gear June 13, 2011 Share June 13, 2011 People using it ONLY in Singapore is a little "waste" on the GPS. My car originally fitted with a smart screen GPS, but it always lead me longer ways in Singapore. I tried it once in K.L , and it brings me to Holland. After this incident, when I'm back to Sg, I head to the agent. They say must upgrade this upgrade that costing a few hundred more..... I went to buy a handy GPS, Marbella which I am entitled to have a from oversea map......you see, that is the different! Maybe, just maybe, the widespread use of GPS is the true reason for traffic congestion problem in singapore Think about it, many of these GPS are "clones" anyway, in terms of firmware and for software, many are using the same map provider.
