There's no right or wrong. Just go with what you are comfortable with.

'30' viscosity is thinner and more fuel efficient and offers better protection at cold starts, but lesser protection at high temperatures when the oil starts degrading.

'40' viscosity is thicker and takes a longer time to reach the vital engine parts at cold starts but offer better protection at high operating temperatures, especially when you are driving in the hot mid day sun and stuck in a traffic jam.

The type of engine oil that your workshop recommends is also dependent on what oil they are trying to push, to their financial advantage of course.

Just buy 30wt oil with HTHS of 3.5

Interesting experiment.. performed on a 2003 model, wonder if more modern engines would fare better or worse.

I used a few different oil but not 10 types

and all the oil were 5W-40 and 5W-30 mix

of Carlube, SHU and Redline.

The engine ran just fine.

Some were open bottles with like 1 litre or less leftover oil.

The most important is to use oil that meets engine specs.

My manual says I can use 0W-30 all the way to 10W-40

so 5W-40 and 5W-30 is within manufacturer's specs.

Yeah I do that too... save the extra 1 L and then use the collected 4 L for one servicing cycle...

What is the argument about?

Seriously, everyone here is a consumer. There is no right or wrong. Stay away from criticizing brands. You want to buy expensive just go ahead. Just a gentle reminder, this thread is about cheap engine oil. If start discussing expensive engine oil then what is the point of having this thread?

I am not rich to start off with. I drive cheap car, use cheap engine oil but my car no problems. Point is just recommend whatever you are using and stop condemning brands. All brands are good, it is about buying the engine oil that suits your needs and pocket.

I use mixed grade n branding in my cars throughout 30 years of ownership. Do not see any issue but I always make it a point to change the oil regularly.
