Can any bro explain why the exchange rate for RM$ here is better than in JB?

I saw the exchange rate for RM$ at Eastpoint money changer this morn at $231.50 but when I went to JB City Square this afternn, it was $230.

Strange rite, all along I thought the rate in Msia is higher.

Is it due to the fact that there are too much RM$ in sg becos many Msian gambler brought them over to sg casino.

look at it this way... in SG.. you can choose how much you want to change, where and when.... but in MY, for places where SG people likes to go... if you no money.. you die die have to change.. so because of this... the rate is lousier...

it also depends on how much demand SG notes are in MY..... the only place where i see better rates in MY is at permas jaya..

those popular places like city square, bukit indah, jusco, sentosa etc will have lousier rates

My favourite changers would be at Boon Lay, Suntec and Mustafa.

When you cross over, they know you are at their mercy and definitely need to change. Hence the poor rate.

Actually, the displayed rate in JB isn't accurate. The guy will usually give you a bit better than the displayed one. I'm guessing that there's some sort of cartel going on but they try to undercut each other 'secretly'.

Pretty much all. Roadside ones tend to offer better rates.

Like one said, if you try to exchange at mall, they have an advantage because chances are it's an unplanned exchange and you're needing the cash. Roadside ones are 'planned'.

In Singapore, you may decide to have the foreign exchange done locally or later in Malaysia

In Malaysia you are most unlikely to return to Singapore to have the foreign exchange done, then go back to Malaysia one more time

You pay for the non-compromising situation (some may call it profiteering)

I realised its the same too for HKD...changing in SG even at airport better than in HK itself...

I went over to HKG, I use Master & some transaction, it gave me better exchange rate.

Furthermore, I got the 1% rebate = more savings too.

This is because the Money Changers will eventually need to bring the Sing Dollar back into Singapore to be converted into USD , RMB, RP or whatever they need for their kind of market .... I dont think they need lot of Sing Dollar there are , there are very few SGrean work in MY .
