5936 1st Gear September 3, 2010 Share September 3, 2010 Are they Ironmen or Wonderwomen? They spend so much time on the road, wouldn't they require seat belts more than any one of us. Apparently, their employers did not provide them with seat belts. Or was it any law that says, bus drivers no need seat belts because their seating area is safer than the Lunar Capsule, or what ever. ↡ Advertisement

Kelpie 2nd Gear September 4, 2010 Share September 4, 2010 They same speed limit as any heavy vehicles. but heavy vehicles installed with seat belts. I thought recently there was a case in wanting school kids to belt up in school bus? So if passengers need to belt up then I suppose the bus drivers need to do the same. How much is one seat belt to the bus companies? Regards,
5936 1st Gear September 4, 2010 Author Share September 4, 2010 I thought so. There seems to be double standards. All new vehicles fitted with belts. But new buses still no belts for drivers.
Ahhuat 1st Gear September 4, 2010 Share September 4, 2010 seatbelts are for small buses only. and those small buses (van type) have seatbelts for the driver. large buses do not need seatbelts for passengers and drivers cos during a collision, the body of the vehicle is able to adequately absorb the impact. if not, there can be no standing passengers on our SBS or SMRT buses. special arrangements made for children riding on large schoolbuses more so keeps them strapped in and not moving around rather than absorbing impact during a crash. long discussed and debated in the previous yrs since that kid died in the school bus accident. why still discussing this? old man already? forget so soon? 5936 1st Gear September 10, 2010 Author Share September 10, 2010 If the structure of big bus is strong then then man would not have died when the crane sliced the upper deck. Bus coach body work is the weakest. U believe the "official explanation" that the bus can withstand impact and passengers are safe from the accident? SimonTan 2nd Gear March 5, 2011 Share March 5, 2011 If bus driver need seat belt...then the bus is traveling too fast. Bus only travels 50km/hr. If required for dus driver, than all standing commuters will have to wear some safety belts too. How about MRT driver? Need seat belt since it's moving at 80km/hr? MRT passengers leh....need seat belt or not?
