Just bought a used Lancer GLX. Using it for the past few days without any issue and today, just on a road side stopped the car and switched off the ignition and opened the door. Suddenly the theft alarm went off and it is keep on honking for 30 sec. So, when ever i open the door or passenger door, the alarm goes off. I checked for the reset button on the board near the accelerator, but nothing is there( i have done that in an another lancer glx 2007 version, where the reset button was near the board near accelerator).

But the alarm goes off only when opening the doors, not during the vehicle run up. Since no mech shop will be opened now, i am posting this. Any suggestions?

By the way, my remote control no longer works from this incident, and now locked the car manually!

Bros in mcf may be able to help if you state the mfg year of your glx model as they may have same model and therefore may know the reset button location unless the previous owner modified it for whatever reason best known to him/her. Usually its around the same location. Also, what do you mean by remote control doesn't work after the incident. Is your remote control battery weak? If so, replace it and try to unlock and lock using the remote control.

Hope my 2 cents help.

Mine is 2006 model. i mean remote control is central locking system, which doesn't work after that. I haven't received any remote from the sales person and nothing has been mentioned in the owner manual about this. I did asked the sales person to contact the pervious owner and to check on this, but no response from him until now. It is quite embarrasing bcoz of the horn.

Since your model is 2006glx, the 'red' reset button should be at the same location as 2007 glx i.e. on the right panel next to your right leg. You can disarm the alarm by turning your ignition key to 'on' position and press the reset button to switch off the alarm.

You should approach the car dealer again for the remote control key because it's virtually part of the car since it is equipped with an alarm system (connected to the central locking system) and originally should have at least 2 sets of keys.

While you try to settle this issue with the dealer, you can also pay C&C or a reliable ws to solve this problem for you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I just took the car to the nearby mechanic shop(autoserv) they have removed the horn fuse and said that there was a short circuit which is triggering this alarm. But i am not sure whether their diagnosis is correct or not. I have to look out for a specialized workshop for lancer. Does anyone know workshop which are specialized for lancer apart from the C&C.
