Why do Proton Satria Neo owners think so highly of their cars?

Sure you can have good power to wight ratio but being able to take on a type r? Come on.

I'm rather skeptical of the car's supposed performance.

Hi all,

I'm a Satria neo Manual 1.6 H-Line spec owner.. i drove the car for almost 2 years now...i lived in KL, Malaysia and i bought the car for rm56000 on a 5 years loan...

My impression is I wouldn't sell the car even if i have to get a bigger car after i'm getting a family... it is such a great car to drive for the value of money that u paid for... and the 1.6 Liter Campro S4PH is a great engine to MOD with cheaper $$$ cost... yes for sure there is a huge feedback in regards to a lack of engine power in low end rev....( actually campro engine gain his peakk power at 3800rpm, but below than that it is quite sux if your engine is stock )therefore a few minor mod need to be done to solve the issue...well...at first to solve the low end prob... i guess i've started to MOD air filter and exhaust header at first and i felt so much different on the low end performance and lastly i was hooked into a journey of searching for Torque, that no one has eventually return after the search of addictive Torque.... :D

below are all listed modification and some price in Ringgit Malaysia for the total cost of MOD...to improve my Campro S4PH ride a lot...

Intake and exhaust:

1) Custom 2.5 inch open port air filter - rm 350

3) Custom stainless steel tune length 4-2-1 Header - rm 470

4) Hotbits exhaust piping including 1 mid box and 1 swirl bullet - rm550

5) N1 replica Racing muffler rm320

6) Calculated re-bored stock throttle body - rm 300

7) Rebored stock intake manifold for bigger air flow - rm 340

Engine:

1) Matspeed HighCam - Scattered 260.266/260 - rm1800 - The same spec that was used by team R3 in Sepang Track 1.6 race againts the Vtec's.... hehe...

2) Port and polish head with test flow by Nasty Port Malaysia Pte Ltd - rm1350

3) High compression piston from 1.3 liter Satria neo engine ( because it has a high cmopression design compare to 1.6 engine ) - rm 600 - now my A/F compression is at 14.8 compared to 10.2 on stock 1.6 piston...can match B16A vtec...hehe

4) Re-grind and 3-Valve angle job - rm 400

5) Works ENG Adjustable Cam Pulley - rm480

6) Arospeed 10.2mm plug cable - rm180

7) Denso IT22 Iridium spark plug rm170

Gearbox: Manual 5 Speed

1) Modified and balanced Flywheel to upgrade to 8.5 inch ( 1.8 car ) - rm600

2) Triniti 1.8 clutch kit - rm900

3) Custom 4.6 Final Drive by Powerzone - Rm 1800

( Close gear ratio upgrade is on my plan, but no money yet.. rm 2800 )

Management/ECU :

1) Haltech Platinum Interceptor Piggyback - RM3000 + install and tune

Handling and breaking: Not much spent there, coz im kinda DRAG person...

1) GAB Adjustable Hi- Low Suspension - rm1800

2) Advan Racing 15inch wheels - rm 1050

3) Toyo Proxes T1R 15 inch - rm250 per piece

4) IMP Improve brake pad - red stufff - rm130 per pair

5) Pro RS brake hose kit - Rm 300

6) Ultra racing front stabilizer bar - rm130

After 1 and 1/2 years modding it, i'm proud to say thanks to all that had involved in the project.... meeting and discussing theory and some advice received from them at a coffee shop and finally making it happen... my new car spec...

Engine : Proton Campro 1.6 liter S4PH ( 1598cc )

Power output : 171 HP@7000rpm / 204nm@5500 - Rev Cut @ 7200rpm

i can be proud la...my car only made locally what...japan car more better lor....so if sometimes can folllow2 Vtec on a short sprint is really a pleasure...hahhaha

Now can play2 with B16A/ B16B minor MOD... but if heavy MOD B16b comes, i have to run oredi...hahha.. i got few friend in Spore are now starting to mod their ride in KL..one of them is driving a white satria neo in sg...

14.5 cr is so overkill u need racing fuel to support it.

Dc5r come with 11.5

Ctr abit higher.

N if u use 1.3l piston with 1.6 l blk, Ur cc will drop ?

Well, if the Type R is modded as well, i dun think the Neo can do much. As for Skyline, well, maybe the driver did not try. He was trying to save gas.

All these are nothing but Neo drivers trying to make themselves feel good. More importantly, there is no honour in a Type R/Skyline makaning a Neo. This applies to all wannabe cars which were never desugned to be fast/on the track in the first place!

While I believe what you write to be true, I do not try to to make myself feel good, coz I feel good! lol! anywayz, I dun do comparison to other cars, well as you say, it is only a Neo and a Type R, is a track beast!encountered several of them on the track, while they are all powerful, even unmodded, some of the drivers need some 'modding' done into them! lol! but that applies to every other car, modded or not, powerful or powderful.

You dun have to have a track-turned-into-a-street car to play on the track btw, being a fanatic on the Sepang atmosphere, I have played on the track myself on a few occasions and witnessed a few occasions where the cars don't really matter as much as the driver (not being smug or arrogant, but hey! a satria neo was third on the last S1K event beating many other powerful rides! yeay!!!!) and hey, u dun have to be a wanabe or have a wanabe car to play on the track, it is all about enjoying and improving your skills, and I am always so excited and proud when I see a vios, altis, bravo, satrias, gen 2s and heck even a City roaring past the tarmac!

So don't really bother about the mentality of other people, their smugs and stuff, feel good about yourself and those who wanna take their not-so-powerful cars on the track then, enjoy your moment!

Nope. Just curious why people say that this car can outrun and out perform more powerful cars...

Besides I've got a wannabe friend who thinks his gen 2 is fantastic.

Thats because Lotus help in designing the chassis and suspension as well as engine. You should know who owns Lotus.

Haha. But it's definitely not a lotus and i highly doubt it can perform like one.

Hmm, do you think it's possible that the Satria Neo can outrun and outperform a 19 year old E200?

Bro, fully agreed with what u said. Just that some drivers are very irresponsible that they take road for track and chut all their pattern.

At the end of the day, all car owners love their rides, no matter brand or make. What matters is that we all should behave responsibly on the roads with due regard for all other road users.

quite impossible, but not impossible, but are you willing to spend hugeee sum of $$$ ? I have 'planted' several 10ks into my present Neo, but with half that amount, I have an eg6 b18c with 220-230hp peviously. The experts in KL say it is not possible to have that kind of power in a Neo, unless, you are willing to use Race gas VP Power or the likes, in addition to a full moded engine (think of somewhere between $60-$80 a litre). But, what if I pump VP in my previous eg? so, like for like, mod for mod, it is really not feasible, but if u're talking on the track, it is different, where skill and engine realibility counts. So I don't believe you can compare and make claims based on Youtube or words of mouth.Cause you do not noe if the skyline is having technical issues so on and so forth. Take your car to the track, enjoy beating the lesser skill drivers, irregardless of car, and have a good time!

It depends on how much you are willing to spend and how "illegal" you want....

If going legal route.... Nothing much of course.

If going turbo route. Highest for a modded Neo is 329WHP using the Campro engine (check out camproturbo website). Thats the crank HP of a stock Skyline R34. WHP will be lower.

NA wise, its around 180WHP.....

Dropping in a 4G63T opens up a whole new world of possibilities........ Of course, its illegal. Don't ask if its possible. It has already been done. Just google. Neo with 4G92 Mivec engine, 4G93T etc.... Some even drop in 4AGE 20V engine.

Boy, what I'm trying to say is, don't be arrogant in your argument. I am also driving a Neo, probably longer than u have as I am the owner of the first batch that comes in Singapore. I have travelled to KL, Selangor, Penang, visited COE and R3 plant, what you've read on the net, I've seen with my own eyes, talked to highly modified Malaysian Neo's owners, tracked with them, 4G92?4G63T? I have seen and touch these machines in the paddocks.Even seen a b16a in a Neo before.

Your arguments are based from 'googling'.Ever meet these owners before? Seen and heard how low-profile they are?

Arguments are meant to be stock-to-stock or slightly modded rides.

The discussions are endless if you bring in modifications in the picture. Neo Turbo? How bout vios turbo?swift turbo?and many other turbos???? u see, u can argue till the cows come home (they prob will not though), base ur discussions fairly, stock to stock or mildly modified.

What is your point though? Do you really need to prove your knowledge based or that the Neo is the best?

We drive a Neo based on our thoughts so why bother what others think huh? Similarly to others and their rides.

Why bother.Be happy with urself and ur ride, not trying to be make people 'happy' with ur ride.

Cheers, dun mind harsh words, but I don't want others to think badly about the mentality of Neorians.

Nope, I never said Neo is the best and I do agree there are many cars better than the Neo. I don't really care about what others think either.

But there are just some mofo in this forum which I can't stand. This is about the worst forum I have come across. Thats why I hardly post in here. I usually post in MY forums where people there are far more friendly and willing to share and help each other.

guys, relax man!

I am a new neorian, bought the car for it's good handling.. But for stock power wise, it is really disappointing. Probably going for a PDT 'tune' in a few mth's time, hope that it works.. [blush]

BUT, it's still a nice car! [wave]
