but even as the carpark charges in HK are way more expensive, their cars are cheap? Our COEs are expensive, but the carpark charges in CBD are "cheaper"?

Ok, let's do some research and calculation.

COE at $48k. $4.8k per year or $400 per month.

CBD monthly parking fee is $350.

ERP $3 per day x 20 = $60.

Total cost $810 per month. Wow!

HK Central.

Monthly rental HK$4950! or S$990.

Wilson parking

Their monthly rate range from HK$2k to HK$7k per month.

Central car park

I [inlove] Singapore...

You forgot to factor in their income.

On average , people who can afford to park a car in HK CBD area earn about twice as much as Singaporeans who drive to CBD to work.

S$990 is peanuts to them.

Why don't increase to $50 per gantry, $1 increase won't have much effect on the roads, just that someone's pockets got deeper.

It's depends on the majority rd users r rich pple or not?! If rich pple, duh think they will be bother by the increase of $1, even $50 also peanut! But if most pple r just middle income and yet drive car, then $1 increase means a lot! [rolleyes]

Hong Kong have 500,000 cars, Singapore got 1,000,000 cars.

Since car is symbol of status, only successful people can afford to own car.

So Singapore have more successful people compare to Hong Kong.

$1 raise nia....

Actually, since the Singapore dollar is strong and HKD is linked to USD, HK$4950 is just S$827 now =) So the cost ASSUMING you park at the Bank of America Tower in Central HK are the same as of now.

what i observed is that some of the congestions are contributed by LTA!

Eg, ECP towards east before Marina bay sands: the roads there are winding and therefore everyone slows down! why cant make it straighter?!

ECP towards west before benjamin sheares bridge: recently the roads are winding again! and cars really slow down at this stretch!

When i saw the above, in my mind was tinking surely the ERP will go up again since the speed is so slow now!!

they cant attributed the slow speed to motorists! It's their fault that the the road alignments are not straight!
