A Qantas A380 has been forced to return to Singapore's Changi Airport after pilots were forced to shut down one of its four engines.

QF32 was bound for Sydney when the engine failed.

Advertisement: Story continues below "Qantas flight QF32 was en route from Singapore to Sydney, the number two engine has shut down, so as a precautionary measure we are taking it back to Singapore," a Qantas spokeswoman said.

"It should land in about 40 minutes," she said at 2.30pm AEDT.

But there were many reports across the internet of there being an explosion, heard from the ground.

The incident sparked widespread rumours over the internet through Twitter, that the plane had crashed, which Qantas said were wildly inaccurate.

Don't have good impression with A380 after a flight back from London on SQ. The airframe was vibrating continuously creating a hell lot of noise. Before take off, there was a strong smell of kerosene. During take off, the plane like took a dive midway through. During turbulence, it's not as stable as 777. The 777 handles much better in turbulence.

Thats a new plane, the A380........

Singapore got 5 flying and wonder will it be grounded for further investigation after this Qantas incident...... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

Hope not [laugh] ... cos I'm flying to Ozzie on SQ A380 for a holiday soon.

Anyway, Qantas has officially grounded the A380 fleet

I rather take a 747 than A380 any day.

The 747 has a long history and CAL one even flew inverted,

lost bits of the plane and manage to land safely.

I am not sure an A380 can do that.

Could be a plane thingy rather than an airline issue.

SQ vs QF, QF may have more high profile incidents, but so far can't recall QF has any fatality crash before.
