Allow existing holders of COEs to register new cars under same COE????

Letter from Fong Chee Wai

IT IS clear that the supply of new Certificates of Entitlement (COEs) cannot satisfy current demand, despite the Government saying it will spread the reduction in COEs over three years (

Twincharged

then how to price the car body ?

eg

current car : $100k

current COE : $30k

total otr : $130k

5 years later, depreciation with the above idea,

old car : $50k

old COE : $15k

but when you buy a same new car after 5 years, how much are you going to pay for the car body ?

will you be willing to pay $100k for a car body to be use for only 5 years ? or will there be any dealer willing to sell you a same new car for $50k ?

Neutral Newbie

Personally as an existing car owner I would really love to be allowed to switch cars while retaining the existing COE :D

However, what about those with expired COE or new car owners?

If everybody held on to the COE for 10 yrs, instead of the typical 3-5 yrs, there would be a lot less COE being released each yr.

It is like balloting for season parking in a full carpark every 10 yrs instead of 1 yr.

Unless someone made a mistake or came up with a solution to the above-mentioned problem, it is highly unlikely for this to happen :(

Yet another COE thread....

Just tag COE to indiviual will allow car owners to change car.

Car prices will be after OMV taxations and depreciations are accordingly to market value.

Past few years when COE is low no one suggest this...
