Zakkwylde 5th Gear January 31, 2011 Share January 31, 2011 Being a cosmopolitan city, Singapore is brightly lit with the rows of lights lining up the roads and expressways. But I realised that these things posed as potential hazards at night during a downpour especially as it caused the lights to "break up' and distract your vision because of the glare produced by the 'break up' of lights. I was driving down from NSHW yesterday and the rain was heavy from Malacca to here but once I entered the checkpoint, I feel that driving in Sg is more challenging due to the change in environment. Now I appreciate more the lack of street lights on NSHW. Anyone feels the same? Any remedy to eliminate the hazard? ↡ Advertisement

Zakkwylde 5th Gear January 31, 2011 Author Share January 31, 2011 Actually I did try wearing polarized lens at night but it gets too dark. Another potential hazard. But polarized lens is very effective during a heavy downpour in the day. It helps you make out the cars 'hidden in the rain'. But the glare produced at night is more to the rain drop that gets refracted by the light to the windscreen and I dun think by having polarizing filters on streetlamps helps. Already recommended to switch off the expressway street lumination between midnight and dawn for energy saving and outside urban driving practice. Watwheels Supersonic January 31, 2011 Share January 31, 2011 Wear sunglasses. I thought this had been discussed before?
Zakkwylde 5th Gear January 31, 2011 Author Share January 31, 2011 Wearing sunglasses is recommended only during the day. Not advised for night driving because everything seems too dark especially when u overtake on the outer most lane. The chances of u hitting the centre divider is high. SimonTan 2nd Gear January 31, 2011 Share January 31, 2011 (edited) Many new pot holes on the road today!! Farkingg sink holes everywhere I go. This morning my car kena huge damage due to a rectangle slot hole! Outside the German center n Creative building, along Jurong east area, towards IMM direction. There is a entire 1 feet by 5feet, rectangle sink hole, yes the entire hole sank in and filled with water. It was not visible due to the water filled. My car went thru that slot and the wheel alignment totally Koyak. My entire car shooked and can hear loud metal contact while going across this hole. I pray no scooter ride by there, the small wheel sure get trapped in the hole and the entire bike will flipped over!! Need to send it for alignment after work today. Hope no damage to my car chassie and underbelly. Edited January 31, 2011 by SimonTan
Zakkwylde 5th Gear January 31, 2011 Author Share January 31, 2011 I second that potholes are another potential hazards especially after prolonged rain. I've got a fren who who goes over them and he got 3 of his Hamann rims dented. But that is in Malaysia btw.... And it could be fatal to riders too. Especially when they tailgate bigger vehicles and don't have ample time to react to avoid the potholes.....
SimonTan 2nd Gear January 31, 2011 Share January 31, 2011 (edited) This is the location of the deadly pot hole...that caused my car suspension alignment to go bonkers! Lucky tyres and rim ok. Edited January 31, 2011 by SimonTan
