Hi all,

I wonder how the 40% rebate of the Green Vehicle Rebate Scheme works..40% reduction of the car price or what?

Thank you very much.

Regards,

What exactly is green vehicle? Green in colour [laugh], emits Oxygen only [:p] ??? Use no gas, no electricity?

It's a hype.

Rebates most likely to be on OMV rather than retail price. So, overall selling price still higher than normal petrol car. 40% sounds a lot, but no "discount" gain as these vehicles are much pricier than norma petrol engine to begin with.

Better off to implement CO2 tax system rather than based on engine capacity.

40% off OMV.

don't make much different tho, just that your OMV is lesser by 40%. unless the car has a very high OMV, the amount is most likely just enough to offset the other costs.

Yes, rebate upfront also affects your "scrap" rebate later on.

It sounds so rosy when they put it, but the difference is minimal.

Plus, the green rebate doesn't go directly to the consumer.

The dealer gets it instead.

In return, I doubt you get the same rebate through the selling price.

So who is the rebate for? Don't get me started.

Singapore is still not really pro-green in this sense.

The road tax structure is crap.

Will be glad to pay much less road tax after selling my hybrid.

Despite Singapore not focusing on going green, our air is still cleaner than those of other countries.

Its cos of all the trees (Which are starting to fall)

don't understand why they can't make it permanent, every year extend. like that people will be scared one day they cut stop the rebates. how to encourage green vehicles?

That is because they are lost! don't know what to do, how to do. And cannot find an excuse to removed it, so buy time lah, renew and extend yearly lor.

nobody even know what is going to happen................and I mean nobody!!

My Estima H is going 3 yrs next month..... which also mean Road tax time again.

Paying 3L tax for a 2.4L green car...

Well despite this tax thing, I will still drive this car.

Hope they will at least peg to petrol engine tax.

i think 2012 they will relook at the rebate, cos Singapore join Kyoto Protocol recently, need to start being green. Last time they weren't under it when implementing rebate etc etc.

Also, 40% less OMV means lesser scrap value, but that's assuming u wanna scrap it before 10 years. For those buying electric or hybrid, they are surely more green, hence will keep for 10 years. So to them, no lost.

Mercy-mercy, I believe most/all AD still got too much stock of not-so-green cars to sell off.

Sorry. I am not so understand about the Green Vehicle Rebate Scheme.

Hope someone can enlighten me.

I copy statement below from LTA.

New cars using electric, petrol-electric, CNG or petrol-CNG propellant registered between 1 October 2006 and 31 December 2011 are eligible for ARF rebate of 40% of OMV under the GVR Scheme.

Let say i the OMV of the hybrid car is $30k.

If my car above 9 years but not exceeding 10 years, i can get 50% of ARF paid.

Is that mean I can get $15k back?
