Those convicted of harassment can be jailed for up to five years and fined between $5,000 and $50,000 on each charge. If property is damaged, they will be given three to six strokes of the cane.

This part is what is good about sg. <_<

Generating more tourism revenue is more important than social cost????? anyway they have set up a national gambling council to address the social cost. of course it cannot eradicate all the evil ills of gambling

having casinos in singapore then justify it by saying it generates tourism & GDP and then setting up numerous councils or help lines to help gamblers out is like..

letting everyone carry firearms then justify it by saying its for self defense then asking everyone to wear body armor.

but they dont realise, body armor or those councils / help lines aren't full proof to cope with the situation.

therefore, importance of money > impact of increased social issues

As usual, its all just a bunch of cloud and smoke la. Went to a casino to check and then got hooked? Blame it on his own pathetic willpower.

Gambling can come in all sorts of form, dont understand why the Casino keeps getting targetted. Been working here where there is a casino like two streets away. Here for a year liao been there two three times and never lost more than 300sgd in total.

Natural Progression of having Casinos

Casinos->loan sharks -> illegal loans -> debt collectors -> loan shark recruit gangsters for debt collection -> gangsters lead to gang fights, slashing, splash paint, acid, broken families.

Agree. Take two hands to clap. It can be treated as a place for recreation... Some ppl choose to treat it as a place to get instant fortune... Juz like a knife, can be use for cooking and also be use for killing. Cannot blame the ppl who sell knife...

Inevitable that with casino right in our living room, some people would gamble their lives and that of their families away. However, it is "some" only. Casinos bring in social cost, brings in organised crime etc but it also brings in jobs, tourist dollars and casino levies. I'm coming in from an angle of free will. If they want to over-gamble, they have to face the consequences.
