Jman888 Moderator February 22, 2011 Share February 22, 2011 (edited) you are too old for social escort ..... joking.... i believe you can start by joining some social groups that you are comfortable with on part time basis on their various program. If needed, take up some related courses like counseling specialise in family, children, addiction etc. again depends on your interest. Alternatively, look into ads that they advertise for official employee (some pay good dollars ... like the previous N** but actually most do pay quite well). Jman888 Moderator February 22, 2011 Share February 22, 2011 most do not need special skill, use the skill and experience from what you know in your professional to help, Some just need hard labor to help out in some dirty job (why not!).... Like i mentioned, if needed do some lite course but some groups have their own crash course... take it easy and one step at a time, you won't be doing the hardcore case if you are not experience. During the course of study, u will have 2 attachments, direct work and indirect work. from there, u will know which type of SW u prefer. its not true that by juz being a volunteer, then its social worker. social work is a professional now, not same as volunteering work. used to be one myself but like wad a bro said here, must also be emotionally strong. if not, will be burnt out very fast... He can carry his past skills and experience that is needed in that organisation. It is also not necessary be volunteering as long as he can contribute one way or another. Unless you are dealing with the beneficiaries' directly and look at their problems, you do not need to have psychology or counseling cert nor need to be emotionally strong. Do you see durian need strong emotional when he take $$ within blinking his eye?
