Was told by my friends that for your car to last longer, you need to start the car often, when you are not driving it.

Please clear my doubts! Thanks in advance.

Starting is not good enough.

Need to drive.

but how often is often?

no need so often lah.

Once a week is fine.

It is to prevent oxidation, batt discharge, etc....

just like exercise, do often is better than do seldom.

but do too often results in injury.

get it?

for short term, the key thing is current. current flows/leaks as yr car sits there. how much current depends on what u hv installed. ie, current to maintain yr radio's clock, alarm, etc.

rule of thumb: once a week. also easier to ask relatives, family members to start your car during weekends.

another point for consideration (i've no info): some (all?) cars charge the battery only when above certain RPM (say, 2500?). if so, simply start car is not charging battery.

So if the new car is sitting under the hot sun in the yard for one year....then the car will spoil?

My honda jazz was sitting in the yard for one year before I bought it.....so far so good!

Just had lunch at turf city today, saw many new cars baking under the sun. A few was under trees and full of bird s--t, I think the paint work gone case.

Saw two jazz, one crz, one Honda mpv....full of bird sheet and tree saps as I drove pass a particular dealer.
