Grindcore888 Clutched May 4, 2011 Share May 4, 2011 that why his team is even worse off than GE2006... 5 years for them to reconnect to Aljunied...and now this again.... with redrawn electoral boundaries, assisted by PM himself garner support for one star Brigadier General Geroge Yeo and his GRC Team has to fight his own battle.... Aljunied has to go WP....we owe this one to JBJ ! Sometimes what George Yeo said long time ago, though not popular with some of us. know your place before you even argue. You can have an opinion, or even make comments on us with your fellow countrymen, but you don't come and tell us whether we take PAP for granted or not, especially not during election. You have no right to influence our opinion on our gahment and opposition. Likewise we may have an opinion on your country, but come to your election, the most we just read the news, we don't go and tell you how bad/good your gahment is, coz it's not our place to make a statement to your countrymen. As an outsider, don't even attempt to influence any sgrean during election.
Dojon 1st Gear May 4, 2011 Share May 4, 2011 I originate from a neighboring country and have many years of first-hand experience living in Singapore and in my country. I observe Singaporeans' sentiments on this general election with interest and put forward my thoughts - food for thought for you perhaps. Singaporeans have lots of genuine issues to be unhappy about. Housing prices too high for newly-weds, high and rising cost of living, high cost of medical care, pressure-cooker education system and working life, high ministerial salaries, arrogant PAP politicians who don't care about the mid and lower income groups, large influx of immigrants, etc. Let me describe some of the electoral issues people in my country are unhappy about. Housing prices too high for newly-weds, high and rising cost of living, high cost of private medical care (public medical care cheap but dubious doctors), high income ministers but dubious sources of wealth, arrogant incumbent party politicians who don't care about the mid and lower income groups, large influx of immigrants (mostly unskilled labourers and many are illegals) And Also High rate of crime, rampant and systemic corruption and abuse of power, state sponsored racism and intolerance, still many people living in poverty, poor public transport in the major cities and non-existent public transport outside major cities, widespread environmental damage, education system that produces poorly skilled graduates unattractive to employers, economy losing out FDI to countries below and above it in the value chain, cash for votes, etc. You can see that people in my country share many of the grouses that Singaporeans have but we have a lot other major grouses that Singaporeans do not have! The PAP is not perfect but they have produced a society that is by and large a good place to live, work and raise a family. It is not surprising large numbers of educated and skilled foreigners, with plenty of choices, choose to move to Singapore. PAP should be recognised for their good work done over the years with your votes. Like all the good and bad inherent in any spouse, the PAP's strengths and weaknesses come as a package. Compared to incumbent parties in neighboring countries, the PAP has far more strengths than weaknesses. Foreigners can appreciate the good in Singapore because life in their countries are worse off. However Singaporeans have taken for granted their security, prosperity, an efficient, clean government and excellent economic and educational opportunities open to all citizens. Singaporeans assume these are a given, something that will naturally be there in Singapore. I beg to differ. Even though past elections have only produced a handful of opposition seats, if enough unhappy people vote for the opposition this time, you might just kick out the ruling party to your surprise. Then in the years to come, only at a time of loss will Singaporeans find out what bliss they had. Yeah... precisely they are not perfect that's why the oppositions should be in the parliament to fill up the slots due to their imperfection. I think we should not take away the credit that they did build a wonderful resourceless country into what we are today in the very old days. That is, the way they handle things suit the environment then but coming to the current era they struggle to cope with the fast changing environment and it is not wrong to say that when you are not up for it you should just let others to have a try. For the very least, they couldn't even hold accountability when things happen instead brag about how well they have been to maintain it till that day. This kind of arrogance is sad to see. What's worse is that responsibilities were pushed down to the very bottom level while the top level is drawing big paycheck. The ministers compared themselves to CEOs of big enterprise but do they not be accounted for when serious enough mistakes are made?
Longg8 Clutched May 4, 2011 Share May 4, 2011 (edited) Foreigners should stay out of our internal affairs. We never comment on others countries issues with their elections, neither should they comment on ours. Most of these foreigners probably have vested interest in that they are afraid with oppositions voted in, they might be driven out of job. i agree with you totally. i guess TS is a msian. com'on, we dont need a msian to tell us that PAP is gd....its none of your business. yeah. none of your business. oh, did one of the guy mentioned that TS is one of the problem? haha yeah, he sure is...so, get lost.... anyway, he's already not replying to this topic that he started...y? quitter? run away upon 1st sight of danger? is that what SAF taught u? opssss...he nv been thru NS i guess... And to add on: Of course the PAP is good ... to TS (and his/her like) It's the PAP policies that gave TS the opportunity to live in a much better place! Whereas we are now feeling the squeeze (on many levels and areas) because of those same policies .... TS: sure, you can share your view and opinion. Just be prepared that others are also entitled to share theirs , as well as to challenge yours.
Stingerquek Clutched May 4, 2011 Share May 4, 2011 That's the problem with most of the FT la!!When the elections topic is being brought up among few of us at work place, they always ask us why we don't support our ruling party? The always said that our PAP here are so good so effective as compare to their country's ruling party. But hor ask them why not convert their PR status to S'porean, they than LL walk away...... Yoongf 4th Gear May 4, 2011 Share May 4, 2011 Hmm.. I didn't know that our opposition parties are pushing for similar policies as our neighbouring countries. Sg culture and norms are the products of ruling party policies. Without the ruling party, all hell will break loose? That's like saying that a fellow citizen stranger in Sg will most probably behave like someone from the neighbouring country.
