The labour movement also wants to be more transparent about its internal discussions with the Government and employers so Singaporeans can appreciate the trade-offs made in positions taken on worker issues, said labour chief Lim Swee Say on Monday. 'While it is important for Singapore to be first in global competition, of growing importance is that Singaporeans come first in our local employment ...this is the best of both worlds that Singaporeans are expecting,' Mr Lim said. Mr Lim also said that the NTUC is thinking of pushing for a cap on the number of foreigners in white-collar jobs as well as to make a company's access to foreign workers conditional on it raising productivity or hiring older workers ↡ Advertisement

Minister without profolio is obviously malingering. He ought to be ashame of himself and retire/resign for his unproductive appointment. NTUC should had sacked him from day one for conflict of interest.
Yewheng Twincharged June 1, 2011 Share June 1, 2011 (edited) Talking about labour force.. there is something that come into my mind.. http://www.temasekreview.com/2011/06/01/fo...s-and-diplomas/ Singapore company seeking forklift drivers with degree and diplomas? hmm.. This clearly shows that many Singapore company are unrealistic.. yes.. now more and more people are getting higher and higher qualification.. but.. hey.. why set so high limit where this forklift drivers can be driven by ordinary 'O' level, or even "N" level passes. So sometimes many people forget that yes.. with global competition company also need to adjust and follow.. but hey.. they also need to understand that something that will not change that is the people who are not so educated.. So by setting limit.. it not only restrict company by employing people to even drive forklift.. than.. company will complain.. no people come join work forklift leh.. why like that ar ? End up many people who are uneducated will be the one who suffer the most.. This is one classic example of many company just follow the trend.. and not thinking things in logic.. and end up they themself to be blame for why so lowly job no one want take. I think this kind of thing should be stop.. so that to prevent in future.. wa want to hire forklift driver need a degree? Cannot be right.. than to drive taxi need a diploma ? cannot be right? drive taxi so simple.. even 'o' level people also can do the job.. yes expectation of people getting higher and higher.. but one must remember.. if one person is very humble and willing to learn.. he/she will still do very well.. So to stop this stupid thing to keep setting higher and higher limit and deprive lowly educated people from getting job.. MOM should set some laws in the system stating that certain jobs cope which do not require so high education to work.. are not allowed to set so high standard.. as it will deprive lowly educated people from getting job.. ( also more for protection of lowly educated people ) Edited June 1, 2011 by Yewheng
