Can he simply dissolve parliament on his own authority and call for fresh elections? Just curious.... Or hold a National referendum on whether or not hold fresh elections or something?

Your title very anti-something ya know... [;)]

Back to your query.

His or Hers is just a ceremonial figure as the head of state.

Upon advice by the cabinet then he or she can dissolve the parliament & other stuff like appeals for presidential pardon of folks on death row, etc..

The power centre as accordance to the constitution is the cabinet (known as the executive branch) and counterchecked by the legislative & the judiciary branches.

Basically he or she has very limited role to play.

No...

But if the President objects to the government's use of our reserves, parliament only needs a 2/3 majority to overrule the president... not difficult considering that more than that belong to one party... -_-

Unless the elected President mentally unsound/drunken, will he oppose his paymaster? Will we become next Burma?

since he can't do much, let's see which candidate promises the largest portion of his takings to charity... something concrete, and maybe much better than getting actors/actresses to plead for donations when we can have 1-2 million every year...

I believe the qualification for any such President should be how much he can contribute to compensate for the wastages by the ruling party?
