Have you clean your WM? Maybe also a lot. 🤣

Never clean my WM. 😅 But if your WM has those black black stuff, even during normal washing of clothes also would appear right?

You want no scum? Only 2 words.

Front loader.

Really. Not joking. 2 FL of different brands and no scum for the last 11 years.

My TL of 2 different brands over 10 years all have the black scum.

ya, been using front load since day 1. so no such issues. once in awhile use the $2 tub cleaner from Daiso.

my current FL has a self cleaning function. After 40 washes, it will indicate a clean up is necessary. Basically that cycle is a hot water cycle lasting maybe 2 hours. It has been working great so far.

FL = front loader ah. 😅

mine is a simple simple Panasonic, so no such features.
in fact my previous Panasonic used 5 years still motor good and drum clean. just that some parts of the outside has started to rust badly.

so I changed FL lor.

FL = Front Load also.

Ex-FL was European. Overloaded her too much and she conked out. Doesn't have self cleaning function. But overall still good though she is rather small.

Current FL is Korean. Zhnged until swee swee when I saw her. No complaints on performance so far.

that why i said it happens to most top load users mah.

When I was using top load, I used top load detergent (Attack or Top) and softener. Also kanna. Maybe it's my luck.

Anyway, I've switched to front load, using front load suitable powder and softener. No issue. Front load seems to wash cleaner too (my perception).

I think it's the design of the machine. Even after a drain cycle, TL may tend to collect a small pool of water at the bottom. This gives it a higher chance for bacteria growth and thus the black flakes. FL may dump more water out, leaving a smaller pool of still water at the bottom.

Past wm I have used:

  1. Electrolux FL - no black flakes
  2. Bosch FL - no black flakes
  3. F&P TL - no black flakes
  4. Toshiba TL - not used enough, no black flakes
  5. Samsung TL - the only one with black flakes
  6. Electrolux FL (early death) - no black flakes
  7. LG TL - no black flakes (yet)

The Samsung TL now has a problem with drain, probably the water pump failed. I have not repaired it yet. Thinking whether to repair or dumped it.

Like that ah. So those black black thing don't appear during normal washing. So means no black black thing during normal washing does not mean no black black thing inside your washer. 😂

The black flakes only appear after I used the powder type WM cleaner. Mine is LG top load. After cleaning, 1 to 2 loads of clothes will still have some black flakes on them.

Yeah, just after 2 yrs (warranty), it stopped moving. Now made in Thailand, maybe quality has dropped.

Yes, with tenants, definitely use more, maybe 3x more than normal.

Right now, the Samsung has stopped working, left with LG. Will see how long the LG TL last.. 😁

I was looking at Candy, seems like Italian brand, not so common as Bosch or Electrolux.

Use laundry bags, so black flakes only kenna the bag.

But bedsheets and mattress protector can escape. Got laundry bags for those?

Yes, 8 years already. Some here cursed the brand like @Mustank. 😅

Fill to the top is 70L I think, where you get so much hot water? From heater? Or just kettle boil? 😁

Why don’t just use a WM cleaner?

Time to change to front load washer.

Mine is Samsung front load washer + dryer. Coming to 8yrs.

Advantage of front loader is it will have hot water function.  Also use less water.

My washer after every 30 wash it will auto reminder of clean the drum.

There is a auto drum cleaning mode with water Temperatureat 70deg, just need to add in some drum clean detergent.

BTW, I never seen this black flake in my washer before.
