Billcoke 2nd Gear August 5, 2011 Share August 5, 2011 http://sg.news.yahoo.com/blogs/singaporesc...-045624142.html A 24-year-old father of two has been given a two years' jail sentence by a Singapore court for breaking into his former workplace and stealing a cash till and the two-dollar bill in it. Ansar Anwar, a Malaysian, broke into a Sakae Sushi outlet at Parco Bugis Junction and forced open the rear door of the restaurant at about 6am on 28 June. With a screwdriver, Ansar pried open the cash till only to find $2. He took the cash till and left the restaurant but he later dumped the till and used the money to take a bus back to Johor Bahru. According to The Straits Times, Ansar was working at Sakae Sushi as a cleaner from 2007 to 2009. He returned to Singapore on 26 June to look for a new job and to borrow money from a friend. Having found none, Ansar decided to steal from his ex-workplace. The father of two was caught at Woodlands Checkpoint when he returned to Singapore on 2 July. A second person known as Dila was found to be involved in the housebreaking, but the man could not be found. Despite stealing only $2, Ansar could have been jailed for up to 14 years. ↡ Advertisement

Rockaphonics 2nd Gear August 5, 2011 Share August 5, 2011 Still $0.10, also 2 years jail? why dont you go propose a law. Steal 10 cents, 1 day jail. 50 dollars and above 1 week. 10k - 100 k is 1 month. above 1 mil but below 5 mil is 6 months. from 5 - 55 mil is 1 year but 55 - 100 will be 5 years. notice how stupid that sounded? so is your logic. Sosaria Turbocharged August 5, 2011 Share August 5, 2011 The punishment goes along with the charge laid on this guy. That's why the law sometimes seems to be not very fair to a layman. Example, if you get punched by somebody, the police may just ask you to go thru civil suit, according to one charge. Or if they consider the case to be under another kind of charge, more serious, then they have to arrest the person who punched you. So, IMHO, there is some interpretation involved... correct me if I'm mistaken.
