[:|] http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_724218.html Electronic road pricing (ERP) operating hours in the evening will be shortened from Wednesday. The gantry along the northbound Central Expressway (CTE) before the Pan-Island Expressway exit will operate from 5.30pm to 8pm, instead of up till 10.30pm currently. Four gantries along the Singapore River will go off half an hour earlier. They will operate from 6pm to 7pm, instead of 7.30pm now. ERP makes road tax seems redundant, we paid to use the road, then paid more to use the road within a specific timing. So what's next? Pay even more when we need to use the road for more than 10km per trip? Why penalised the citizens when planning wasnt done properly while drawing top notch salary? 'Live' traffic data should help more than sufficiently, and target ERP at the real peaks. Who wants to be stuck in traffic anyway, and still have to pay for ERP ? Exactly, going home after work the timing can be flexible and the drivers can diecide for themselves, no need to use ERP to control the traffic flow after say 7pm.... past few years of irrational ERP charges till 10pm (or later) is just another piece of LTA rubbish!! Cant they consider 'flexible' lanes: lanes which can change direction between morning and evening peak hours when heavy traffic flows only in direct and the other direction has much lighter traffic (ie empty lanes)? Note: some highways do have heavy traffic both ways and not suitable for flexi-lane scheme. eg KL has highways which have say 4 lanes in each direction during normal hours, and they become 6 in one direction, and 2 in the other direction to cope with the heavy traffic in one direction during peak hours. This is an old and proven flexibility to utilise limited road space in an efficient way. LTA born yesterday??
