Ppl will start to write in to ask for the authorities to give concessions to ppl who are really doing business and are genuinely in need of a new van/lorry.

the operating cost of van higher means price to customer higher -> inflation.

No lah. Small businesses will be affected. Lorry guys will still continue to drive cos it's their boss who buy the lorry.

The way to stop people from converting a commercial vehicle to a personal / family transport is to step enforcement on unauthroised carrying of passengers behind. In fact, there are strict rules governing this but for some reasons, the enforcement is weak and almost non-existence. For example, only employee of the Company can be seated behind with proper insurance coverage and subject to a max # allowable by the vehicle type. And, it must be on official business (office to workplace, workplace to workplace etc).

This is so true -

Only EMPLOYEES and only on COMPANY BUSINESS.

If the authorities start to police properly would cut out a LOT of crap...

The root of the problem is the enormous population they have created which leads to the inadequacy of public transport that's why ppl turn to personal transport. They cannot be so mean as to grip so tightly until ppl cannot breathe.
