Go watch the Last King of Scotland, it had a scene of Entebbe's daring rescue mission.

Damn good movie.

Might as well watch Raid on Entebbe (1977). The entire movie is based on that op.

irony that while israel hostages were rescued from this raid, hundreds of kenyans were killed in retaliation by the Uganda government for assisting israel.

machiam like final destination except that others died in your place.

I know one israel guy working in sin.He said to me,"I have to be honest with u,I think our women soldiers are better fighters than ur local army guys."

Knn I was like WTF and argue with him......but after the news that came out with the maid carrying the bag and one kuku swimming across to escape,I might have to say yes [laugh]

He told me that all their soldiers are train to kill.Coz,they have to be ruthless when u are the only country surrounded by the rest of the "brothers countries"

They are always on the high alert....

Your israeli guy must be talking about situation 10-20 years ago. This is not comparing "apples-to-apples" lah... If you look at israel situation nowadays, their youths are also having the same problems as our youth. If you look at their reservist army now, perhaps you will also spot tatoos, ear-rings, make up, longer hair, etc.

It's the same situation the world over, especially in urban settings. Youth are more well-versed in technology, but losing touch with other skills that come naturally in the past before so much technology make life more convenient. They are getting more pampered and soft. In israel and many developed countries all over the world - it's the same problem.

If you research further, there are even people in israel now who are conscientious objectors, and refuse to serve in their occupied territories, feeling that it is immoral and unjust.

Read many years back. During WW2 the Japanese Army with firearms was forced to withdraw after about 3 weeks, from Papua New Guinea by natives armed with bows and arrows, complete with natural noctural vision. The invaders needed flares to fight at night. But not the natives. Perhaps the only place the Japanese Army was defeated before the Atomic bomb was dropped onto Japan.

during ww2, one Malay regiment (may be just a Company, about 300 soldiers) fought the jap fearlessly on a hill even though they were outnumbered somewhere near southern part of our island, the fight is now made into a video (soundsaround) for visitors/tourists.... my wife watched it recently and was impressed/touched... anyone saw it before?

Yes, my uncle was the first batch of SG commandos trained by the Israelis.

He was told me...

If the enemy kill one of them, they will kill 10 of the enemy.

The trainer chiong sua, he will tell you he can do it, so can you.

Some pretend to faint, they use cigarettes and poke into you to see if you are for real. [dizzy]

My uncle serve NS in the 70s as a commission officer trained by the israelis as well. During his time, you need to get the cpl rank before selected for OCS. There is no such thing as after bmt, directly send to OCS. The lta rank on his shoulder was in diamond shape instead of bars if i don't remember wrongly.

I saw this documentary before. Some of the israelis refuse to serve their country as they find it is very inhumane how their army treat the palestinian

So it's the same problem everywhere. Sometimes, it's not just a simple matter of youth being too "soft". What's happening is that they are now better informed, and will not hesitate to question their elders or superiors if something they feel is not right.

Their soldiers are war ready like Taiwan and South Korea... Ours are just operationally ready (sometimes only)...

The good news:

I believe both of you are still right.

Many more women soldiers are selected and highly trained weapon specialists (the Isreali got his point right).

Many NS boys brought up, surrounded by feminine environment (you got the point right, too).

The bad news:

We have yet to improve further on these, despite so many more promoted to Generals over the years.

I believe many of us may be aware that if the lights are switched off, many would not dare to drive with headlights switched on, due to night-blindness from being brought up in over illuminated environment. Fight night-blindeness issue first.

Chance upon this documentary in Youtube.

Very impressive and bold rescue mission by the IDF! [thumbsup]

Enjoy!

Operation Entebbe was a counter-terrorist hostage-rescue mission carried out by the Special Forces of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) at Entebbe Airport in Uganda on 4 July 1976.[3] A week earlier, on 27 June, an Air France plane with 248 passengers was hijacked by Palestinian and German terrorists and flown to Entebbe, near Kampala, the capital of Uganda. Shortly after landing, all non-Israeli passengers, except one French citizen, were released.

They have quite a few encounters. I am most impressed with the one led by their Chief of Staff and one time Prime Minister, Ehud Barak.

Totally agreed. The 70s-80s batch really all out.

Even when want to chao Kheng, these are the hardcores one.

Break their own leg etc; [laugh]

I believe only the first 2 batches.

Example: got one officer told us: if got war outbreak, and officer like him around. Better to surrender than fight and lost. He confessed no confidence in himself due to his performance.

their ippt standard is 15 chinup & 6min for 2.0km run to pass

6 min for 5 rounds?? PASS only?? Greatly exaggerated lah... 6min, 2.0km is their GOLD standard, maybe.

If it's just a pass, I believe many people cannot pass, even in israel.

IDF's Krav Manga is very deadly

I wonder how they treat their training/sparing casualties?

Example: I was told by a few who had to stopped certain martial arts training due to injuries sustained during that their training. Their Instructors could not treat such injuries like many Chinese martial art Instructors do.

I would like to recommend all young people to be properly trained, minus the crippling due to injuries their Instructors could not treat.

I believe many of us aware of the presence of people limping from parachuting training/practice injuries untreated.
