Any1 Jumpstart before using cables?

Hi all,

 

I just bought a pair of jumpstart cables from JB GIANT.

 

no brand one.

 

it says 400Amp.

 

 

will it work to jumpstart normal jap cars?

 

 

anyone successfully tried jumpstarting using cables before?

Simple. Switch off all electrical equipment in the weak car. Off the aircon, radio,etc.

Just hooked up the two batteries together in parallel. + to +, - to -.

No damage to both cars.

Start the weak car.

If still cannot start, that means the good car battery is also koyak. The good car can start engine and rev the engine to charge both car batteries for 1mins.

Start the weak car.

Once started the weak car, let it idle. Remove the cables.

Rev the weak car or drive for a long distance.

Helped jump start before, both on the giving and receiving end.

1. Live car should be running

2. + of live to + of dead, - of live to - of dead (some may advice against directly connecting to the - of dead, but instead to a grounding point on the dead car)

3. Fast idle by revving live car for ~ 1min

4. Try to start dead car, should revive.

5. Remove cables in reverse order.

Successfully jumpstarted many times.

Problem is the cables you bought is it too thin and pose too high a resistance?

 

 

visual inspection of the cables?

 

or is there some specs to determine?

almost follow these step

i ill try for first crank after jumper connection.

if cannot then use step 2 to charge up te weak battery fr 3-5 mins.

Yes & No (depending on situation) but no longer rely on such cables since I got a Jumpstart Battery Booster which comes with appropriate cable/clamp.

Jumpstart other people car before.. Their car normal or not, i not sure, but is made in Japan..

 

Only got one time one lady connect the black terminal to the red terminal, and saw sparks..

The thickness of the wires does play apart. Especially if the car being started is complety flat, the current draw is so high that you may need 2 sets of jumper cables to get the car started.

with 1 cable it could not turn over even 1 revolution before the starter stalls.

easy to jumpstart.

 

1. Connect red cable first. Battery to battery

2. Connect the black cable last. Good battery to body/engine of flat car

3. Start up good car

4. Rev good car (about 2k rpm) and hold it there

5. Start up flat car. PRESTO.

6. Disconnect black cable first

7. Remove red cable

agree, or else the starter car batt will be badly affected

 

I totally disagree that the good(starter) car battery will be badly affected. What kind of affect will it suffer?

 

In basic electrical theory, hooking up the two batteries in parallel, simple means that the good battery is providing the juice to the the weak car just for ONE time starting of the engine.

 

After the weak car has started, immediately disconnect the jump cables.

Both cars will not suffer any effect at all. There will not be any voltage or current spike that will cause damage to both cars.

 

Unless the weak car has engine problem, and needs multiple cranking to start the engine, in that situation it might drain out the good car battery after a few unsuccesful tries.

my former car needed a jump start before.. i went to those diy shop and got a cable, and another car was kind enuff to help..

 

but when the connection was done, and we were trying to start my car.. the cable started to smoulder.. and i didnt wanna damage the other car, had to stop.

 

Eventually AA came and did the job. Until now i also dont know why. but AA guy said that the cable does plays a part. If it cannot handle the current, it will smoulder like what happened.

The thickness of the jumpstart cable directly affects the current rating.

 

Thicker cable = Lesser electrical resistance = Able to handle higher current.

 

Higher electrical resistance = Higher heat generated = Higher risk of cheap/thin jumpstart cables smouldering/melting on the wire insulation and clips.

Can anyone recommend a good jumper booster and price? No need for another vehicle for a jump-start. Thanks.
