Alfa owners understands class and pedigree. But because alfas are cheaper in Singapore, most of them are really closet Merc lovers, having to meet budget, settling for less.

Don't. Get it right the first time, cheaper for you long run. Get a Merc. [laugh]

My personal opinion. No flaming hor.

2 years back I wanted to buy Alfa Romeo 159 and got advice from friend in this industry. All of them tell me, boycott this idea driving Alfa, it's well known "problematic" car. The gear box have most problem. I never drive any Alfa before or perhaps ex Alfa owner can input more why they sell their Alfa. IMHO

159 unreliability is myth.

concocted by old school car owners who didn't have the time to understand the meaning of regular servicing of both the gearbox and the old JTS engine. (which by the way, was a good engine but ate too much oil, too much maintenance work to do) Skip the 2.0JTS if possible.

159 reliability is amazing. understand the actual maintenance of the gearbox, and its just like any other car , (minus add in fun, looks, feel, enjoyment)

If my friend's wife can drive it well, anyone can drive it well.

If that old lady that another friend saw, driving an Alfa Selespeed can drive it, anyone can drive it. Unless you're the type of driver who likes convenience, disconnectedness with your car, and just want a point and shoot car.
