Vulcann 6th Gear February 7, 2012 Share February 7, 2012 Any bros watched SH NGC: Inside Afghan ER? Saw the show last night and was somewhat traumatized.... It tells the real life experience of a US army combat hospital team in Camp Salerano in Afghanistan sometime in 2008 when the ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) and the Talibans/insurgents were slugging it out bitterly. Injured friends or foes alike were flown in via Blackhawks to be treated at the hospital which was made up of Americans. The traumatizing part was when two seriously injured 101st AB troopers, victims of a IED, were wheeled in. Their Humvee was obliterated in the process and three of their buddies were KIA on the spot. Their condition were actually very critical and the surgeon, a Lieutenant Colonel, made the painful decision to amputate all their legs as well as arms of the Lieutenant, one of the victims. The nurse then used a small electric saw and started working on one of the limbs (thankfully this footage was in B & W) after which she used both her hands to carry the sawed-off bloody human thigh to dump it in a red plastic bag to be disposed of. Once their conditions were stabilized, they were heavily sedated and readied to be flown out to Germany for a more proper medical treatment. The film crew also shot footages of Afghans, friendly and hostile, being sent in for treatment. One was a suspected insurgent and this guy was in real bad shape. He was basically gurgling in his own blood and dying of lack of breath so the medical team tried to cut an opening in his throat to help him breath but then he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite their best efforts, the bad guy kaput and the Afghan crew then moved in to prepare the body as accordance to Afghan ritual. Really a powerful show. It showed the gruesome aspects of a bitter war where many perished and if not dead, some were maimed beyond recognition for life... [:(] One thing interesting was that some of the US army nurses were actually officers. One old man nurse was a Lieutenant while another, a woman, was a Captain. ↡ Advertisement
Kiadaw 6th Gear February 7, 2012 Share February 7, 2012 & some of these soldiers are paid less than our Army regulars.... I always have a huge respect for people who put their lives on the line when they have the choice to do something much safer. That's why I feel a bad taste in my mouth when our MP said how much they have to sacrifice to serve us.

EasyGoing 2nd Gear February 7, 2012 Share February 7, 2012 My thoughts are: for every US soldier they showed, how many non-US person, innocent or otherwise, are also in the same or worse condition. And everytime the wifey tells me, oh! poor thing these Americans, I asked her why the hell do they have to ravege somebody's country in the first place, they ASKED for it! After all the s--t-talk by Bush, did they find anything remotely resembling MWD. The answer is NO. To me Bush should be held responsible for all the atrocities, and probably Cheney too. KARTer 2nd Gear February 7, 2012 Share February 7, 2012 Maybe some consider what i am going to say OT:- watched recently documantary how the jap forces were whacked hard by the US at midway etc..... many jap civilian women/children hid in the caves during the heavy US bombing..... towards the end, in order to 'flush' out the remaining / stabburn jap soildiers still hiding in the dug-out / caves, the US fired / flame-throw all the caves/holes they saw..... to their horrors, they found after a while that some of these caves had only young children and their mother/grandmother hiding inside.... by the time these victims were evacuated, many had already died or heavily injured.... then the camera showe a few totally shaken 3-4yr olds being cared by the US rescue teams... they were fed water while still trembling / shell-shocked with face covered with mud/bloods, hair in a big mess, their torn clothing barely shielding them in the rain which made the whole place muddy..... these kids were trembling all over during the 5-10mins footage... they looked helpless and innocent... i still could remember they expressionless eyes.......... the rulers decided to go to wars..... the elites planned the attacks and sent the soildiers to die ... the civilians had no choice but to suffered together Note: at the end of the war, many jap militarymen were made war-criminals and punished/killed..... but the Alliance Court decided to spare the Emporer after many jap appealed..... but its the Emporer who gave the order to fight...... (some say while admitting wrong in invading other 'innocent' countries during WW2, the jap generally felt at the time their Emporer represented everything Japan stood for, and to sentence him for war crime acts would be as good as 'destroying' the nation/race...) Vulcann 6th Gear February 7, 2012 Author Share February 7, 2012 (edited) While watching the show, you didn't think any of it was propaganda? Wow.... The Americans were right, the war is won by winning hearts and minds. Because human beings are basically sheep, easily moved by the media. I don't see it as propaganda. Even this show is by NGC, a US organisation, it did not say who is right who is wrong but merely portrays the horrific side of the war. Like I said earlier, in war many perished and many many more injured or maimed for life. In short, war is hell. If you mean moved by the show emotionally yes but it also exhibits the tragedy of it that human beings are at the throats of each other because of different ideologies, beliefs and interests...
