Jman888 Moderator February 8, 2012 Share February 8, 2012 Looking at the few threads on the money not enough, slow life, childcare and kids education etc. Β As a parent in Singapore, we have extra worries for the children future starting from the day they were born. Some even go to the extent of worrying about what they can afford even after the kids are 30 and married. Spoken to a few relatives in SG & MY over CNY, may young parents started to plan to the extent getting condo for EACH of the children. Β Comments like "how to have more children? 1 more children mean must buy 1 more condo!!", another cousin in KL said the same thing! imaging apartment in KL can also goes to RM$1.5 million each at today market. It didn't surprise me as many friends and relative give condo give condo as their son/daughter wedding gift (i dun mind to be the groom on the receiving end ). Β DO you really plan so far for your kids? are we overly concern or was it the traditional chinese culture? Β Β Β Β β‘ Advertisement

Β DO you really plan so far for your kids? are we overly concern or was it the traditional chinese culture? Β Β I see many parents compare and ask around just to seek affirmation that they are doing ok. For me I feel as parents you are a sacrificial being the moment the child is conceived. It's how nature works. Which means ultimately you are supposed to die for your children. It may be an extreme statement but as parents you should give completely to make sure your children live to their best. The world is changing. The saying of "when I was young I didn't ... And yet I became a doctor etc.." does not hold true as the overall society change is a variable. The overall population is becoming smarter and if you don't do your best to provide your child WILL fall behind.

Watwheels Supersonic February 8, 2012 Share February 8, 2012 (edited) If you ask your father & grandfather(if he's still around) their worries were the same as yours. So how well did you turn out? Even if farkdup there's nothing can be done. Β Accept it. Β That's the good thing about us human beings, being able to adapt to what is thrown at us. Β As I said, using ah gong ah mah generation theory is not valid anymore because the world is different. 30 years ago 5 year old on average can't recite Te alphabets .. Now 1 year old can do that in no time. The population mean for IQ has shifted . If you stay as you were 30 years ago you may be labeled as mentally challenged. So my point is parents like to assume and put on a "good parent" front but that aside practicality matters.

Jim 1st Gear February 8, 2012 Share February 8, 2012 The most expensive endeavour a modern parent of a healthy child ought to start and end with healthcare and education, and then giving the child the freedom to do whatever they want to do. Β If you plan this and that for your child and then emotionally blackmail them to staying in Singapore with you, getting married, giving you money, making babies for you, you belong to the Stone Age and will not earn my respect.
