Just like the NUS increase, what I don't understand is, increase then offer scholarships, aid ....

Might as well increase those for foreign students gao gao at a go and minor adjustment of less than $50 for local students.

Local students are for the country's future and they will contribute.

For foreign students, we don't owe them anything, so why must we offer them cheap school fees. if they can't afford, it's their problem. Local students can't afford then is our problem since our future skilled workforce depends on them.

I Think during GE Png Eng Huat ever say that when citizens do not feel special about paying same price, all garhmen did was to maintain or slightly increase for citizens and then make even more expensive for PRs. He say tis does not make citizens feel any special but it sure does make PRs or foreigners feel loust. Exactly wat they are dong nw for skool fees

Well it's good that they finally draw a line between citizens and PRs in terms of fees. During my time in uni, citizens and PRs are charged the same fees, if I'm not mistaken. While foreigners pay roughly double, with "friendly" foreigners (ASEAN countries) paying 1.5 times.

Then the differences eroded, as the govt pursue a policy of welcoming more diversity and foreign students (now applied the friendly term: international students!).

And finally now, after getting a wake-up call...

Fees at polytechnics, ITE to increase for next year’s cohort

http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/fees-polytechnics-ite-increase-next-years-cohort

For polytechnics, this will be at least the sixth consecutive increase (beginning from 2013). For Singapore citizens, full-year fees will go up by S$100 to S$2,800. For Singapore Permanent Residents (PRs), fees will increase by S$200 to S$5,600 and, for international students, the S$400 increase means full-year fees will hit S$10,000.

Meanwhile, for ITE students enrolling next year in a Nitec course, fees will go up by S$20, to S$370 a year for Singapore citizens; by S$300, to S$4,950 for PRs; and by S$900, to S$13,350 for international students.

There will be no change in fees for those enrolling in a Higher Nitec course in 2018 — fees for citizens, PRs, and international students, will remain at S$590, S$7,760 and S$20,360, respectively.
