Ozrims 2nd Gear March 18, 2012 Share March 18, 2012 For the face-lifted model of RX8 (those after 2008), the one with the higher BHP is not Type S, it is Type RS. Type RS is a manual model with higher BHP and 19-inch rims, while Type E and S are auto-models with tiptronic gear. I think Type E and S with 215bhp is good enough if you need an auto car as the RS model is strictly a manual. It is not true that RX8 cannot outrun a taxi sonata. Rotary engines are not known for initial torque but the drive is unique and smooth, not the mention that the RX8 is built with a sports car handling (rear wheel drive, superb cornering) although the power output is considered only slightly above average. The harder you rev it, the more fun it is as rotaries can withstand high revs. Maintaining the RX8 is a breeze as long as you keep a few key points in mind and send in for regular servicing. Go to RX8 forum to get friendly help, a bunch of nice ppl there. Be prepared to pay more for insurance as RX8 is considered a sports coupe in insurance terms, while A4 is a sedan, so we cannot expect the same premium. Good luck with your choice! ↡ Advertisement
Chordbern Neutral Newbie April 21, 2012 Share April 21, 2012 Well explained! Am driving a Type RS since 2010 and have never looked back. Really look forward to driving it everyday. Now that it has stopped production, all the more I'm hanging on to it! For the face-lifted model of RX8 (those after 2008), the one with the higher BHP is not Type S, it is Type RS.
