No big conspiracy here.  Ma Baoguo is another scammer and fake taiji master like the last guy Wei, who was relatively unknown in taiji circles and created his own 'Thunder Style taiji'.

 

Some perspective here:

 

One of the most famous past taiji masters, Feng Zhiqiang, created a form of taijiquan called 陈式心意混元太极拳 which is widely practiced and now propagated into the fourth generation.  In the West, this is known as Chen Style Hun Yuan Taijiquan.

 

Ma Baoguo emerged in the West, I believe in England, promoting his own version of what he calls Hun Yuan Taijiquan where he is the creator, founder, and 掌门人.  The only problem is - in Chinese, his style is called 浑元形意太极门。  

The similar spelling is sufficient to muddy the waters, allowing him to scavenge the fame of Chen Style Hun Yuan Taijiquan, and for him to build up a following with English Youtube videos, etc.  The Chinese call this practice 山寨. He's basically a squatter riding on the reputation of a more famous group.

 

The inside word is that Ma Baoguo called the police himself, so he'd not have to actually fight.  He did achieve his objective...people worldwide have now heard his name.
