With some advancement in AI and robotics tech, its time that they look into deploying these for the passport stamping.   Then all counters can open 24/7 without much manpower issue.

who need human to do these mundane work of passport stamping?

With AI and robotics, more humans can be deployed to do more car checks for contraband.

the tech is ALREADY here!

but why want to clear sg-jb custom fast and furious? [sly]

its all about the services that is rendered and the cost. Human is cheaper than robot if u need one that can chase down a person.

Context different. In changi, passengers cross as individuals.   So it works.  In customs, people cross in car loads.  So even if contactless

1)   everyone has to get down to scan passport or

2)  driver or immigration officer has to scan everyone's passport

3)  immigration officer has to check that number of passports match number of passengers and identity match also

So and of day, no time savings.

For passenger traffic I think feasible but I tot they have it already?  Though for singapore and PR only.  I am  not sure if it can be done for international visitors cos not all passports can fit into the machine. Even in changi they still have counter for stamping passports.

Compare this with our causeway traffic which is about 350 thousand a day or roughly a million people every three days making it easily over a hundred million travellers a year.
