Works to widen a busy stretch of Braddell Road, between Toa Payoh North Flyover and Braddell Flyover, will begin in the third quarter of this year, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA).

When completed by end 2015, the road will be expanded from its current dual-three lanes to a dual-five lane carriageway, which is expected to alleviate the traffic congestion that the stretch currently experiences.

As part of the road widening project, the LTA will also be constructing a new single lane flyover to allow vehicles that are turning to the right from Toa Payoh to connect directly with the Braddell Underpass as they head towards Paya Lebar.

The junctions of Lorong 1 to Lorong 6 Toa Payoh, and Lorong 1 to Lorong 4 Toa Payoh, will also be improved. "When completed, the road widening project will help to alleviate heavy traffic conditions currently experienced along Braddell Road during the peak hours and meet anticipated increase in traffic demand," said an LTA spokesperson.

Residents in the area can also expect two new pedestrian bridges across Braddell Road.

Necessary noise mitigation measures will also be in place for this widening project, both during and after construction, assured the LTA.

Bishan resident James Martin, who is in his 20s and uses Braddell Road regularly to get home, would often be stuck in traffic congestion along the stretch during evening peak hours.

"If the project helps to resolve jams, it will be great," he said.

No difference one lah, look at CTE, widened and widened dont know how many times already .... added so may ERP gantries ..... still the same ...

The root of the problem is car population ...... cut on COE allocation to negative to reduce the population of cars ... that may help.

Thought the cut on COE already implemented?! [rolleyes] Think we need to wait until after 2019 then we can see the current COE reduction effect, whether or not the cars on our roads have reduced. Now still too early to tell, as the majority of cars on the road now is from 2004-2009 era.

Anyone know what is the reason of placing the ERP gantry heading into tpy? [:/]

Not really, currently still have 0.5% growth on the cars scrapped ... taken off the road ... assuming 20,000 cars scrapped in Y2012 ... there is still an addtitional 100 COE release...

About time they do something to clear the bottleneck there.... It has been there for past 10 years at least.... Just woke up from their sleep..... [:)]

The purpose of having ERP gantries at expressway is to divert traffic alternative routes to free up the E ways,...... Adding one at tpy is as good as killing the alternative route....

Hope by expanding will helps to ease the traffic there. It is also one of the area prone to accidents . I always try to avoid that area if possible .

You can find bottleneck traffic everywhere on the roads esp peak hours, so doesnt only apply to braddell & lornie road area lo. [dizzy] Dont think LTA can solve all the bottleneck issue.

I have been using this stretch for years and very improvements have been made. Lame excuses to cite by LTA..... [:(]

actually to ease jams...

1st: educate people; rev car to red line, engine will not blow up.

2nd: no money to pump petrol, dont buy car than drive like a wussy

3rd: go all over Singapore to siam 1 ERP is more costly than petrol, sometimes, most of the time.

I agree some drivers' right foot cramp or something, red light changes to green, and they start crawl like in front got ghosts!! [mad]
