We don't work for USA so why risk our men for USA??

It takes clarity of mind to identify true intentions of various actors.

The purported advantage such as more rapid response to deter SG invaders, to save costs, etc fizzles when the true risk being Guam already identified as military target by North Korea, Russia and China in times of hostility is presented.

Anyway, we have a detachment in Australia, so there is no strong reason to have Guam as another near base, other than being hostage to ensure the right side is picked

Operational flying Restrictions on over water (international)  training is very different from over land training.

Australia doesn’t operate F-15 or F-16, so from a logistics perspective there are benefits to be co-located with an existing operator.

I would be surprised if NK would be deterred or even care if there is an RSAF detachment there. Likewise if sh!t hits the fan and RSAF gets caught in the crossfire, I doubt Singapore would take any retaliation given its posture.

Maybe I’m middle-headed and you’re the clear minded one, but I don’t see this detachment being a significant factor one way or another whether it is the NK/US situation, or the SCS nine-dash question.

If anything, the fact that we regularly host the USN’s ships at CNB is more geopolitically consequential than any imagined hostage purpose.

I can't predict how the government will react under 4G, as Chan Chun Sing once told the press we would go to war when Mahatthir parked his ships in disputed waters off Tuas.

Though that, LHL repeated said in public, Singapore will not be available as a staging point for containment of China, but it might change if further arm-twisted under the 4G leaders

Guam is acknowledged to be in gunsights of the north eastern socialist governments at odds with US.

When missiles fly, I hope my kids are not stationed there.

Perhaps some of the parents here may beg to differ; to each his own.

I think you’re conflating the issue of going to war on someone’s behalf with enforcing our territorial integrity.

South Korea and Japan are much more likely to be hit, simply because NK has more weapons to reach them (Seoul itself is within artillery range from NK) to achieve any significant military objective. They likewise have American bases and the bonus is their South Korean and Japanese nemesis.

Yet, both are popular destinations, not just for Singaporeans but from all over the world. If there’s a threat, the travel advisories will start going up and perhaps only then we worry about Guam…

Are we seeing a pattern of their 'peaceful' nature everywhere?. This is just a game, and their death chant is sibei ugly, the type I thought I would hear from a pro Palestinian or Israel proponent.

Ten years ago, when discussing the PLAN’s first aircraft carrier, a Chinese intellectual commented to me that the online mob mentality in China was so strong that the government found it hard to rein in some of the more extreme viral opinions that demanded action from the CCP that they weren’t willing to take at that time, ie a more assertive military presence globally. I guess ten years on we have our answer

I agree the quality of some chinese nationals leave much to be desired.

To me, they are like country bumpkins who are bankrupt in their self confidence, with the need to flaunt material assets and react to losses, slights uncouthly like the popular termed glass hearts.

This does not mean the country itself has no right to deserve what it is agreed be entitled to.

Perhaps in 50 years time, the culture can catch up with the material progress

Can you rob or dismember a bumpkin because he is poor in utilising his resources?
